Senior Underwriter - Home Office Contract Surety

About the Team: Evaluate contract surety bond referrals submitted by branch personnel to determine if they meet risk tolerances and strategy of Contract Surety Division. Responsible for monitoring lines of authority and surety portfolio of branches assigned.
About the Role:
1. Oversee underwriting of branch offices assigned. Approve bid and final performance bonds in excess of underwriters and branch/regional manager’s authority. Communicate with Vice President/Contract Surety regarding the efficacy of large bonds.
2. Mentor/coach branch personnel with aim of enhancing technical proficiency and overall professional development.
3. Enhance branch agency relationships by face to face meetings with key agents and accounts.
4. Aid Senior Manager with annual branch underwriting reviews..
5. Participate in special projects as delegated by Senior Manager.
6. Aid in development of annual underwriter training seminar program. Lead training classes.
About You:
1. Bachelors Degree with emphasis in business, preferably finance or accounting, or, equivalent work experience.
2. Minimum of 7 years of contract surety underwriting experience of which at least 5 years is current contract surety underwriting experience.
3. Proven ability to underwrite contract surety accounts with work programs in excess of $20 Million.
4. Strong competency in quantitative and financial analysis.
5. Effective written and verbal communication skills.
6. Competent computer skills including knowledge of Excel and Word.
7. Ability to travel up to 20%.
