Description
Manages staff responsible for design, development, implementation and validation of credit policy, risk and/or marketing systems in an effort to manage the risk of consumer receivable portfolios.
Impact on the Business
• Manage staff and/or external consultants in the development and/or implementation of statistical models, risk criteria, credit attributes, and alternative strategies for direct mail response/activation, account acquisition, credit limit settings, authorizations and collections
• Work with senior management in the development of risk management systems and strategies. Should work with Technology Services and external vendors to select, design and implement risk management/data aggregation systems, as appropriate
• Manage credit risk management assignments and projects undertaken by independent external consulting organizations. Ensure effective, efficient and compliant results
Operational Effectiveness & Control
• Develop and recommend credit standards for one or more business units
• Develop and install credit monitoring and tracking systems designed to quantify the differences in effectiveness of alternative strategies for credit limit management authorizations, underwriting standards for account management and collections
• Should review and analyze existing business unit strategies and recommend and implement new strategies, as appropriate (i.e. credit line management, collections, authorizations, communications, card reissue, and dynamic re-pricing modules)
• Develop economic and portfolio forecasts including a thorough analysis of portfolio performance and loss analysis/segmentation
Role Context
• This position should directly manage at least two professionals
• Additional responsibilities that this position may have within specific HSBC business units:
• Manage and monitor access and usage of credit bureau related products and services
• Provide regular tracking reports to business units regarding data related expenses
• Ensure contractual requests are appropriately reviewed by corporate and/or external counsel
Management of Risk
• Ensure compliance, operational risk controls in accordance with HSBC or regulatory standards and policies; and optimize relations with regulators by addressing any issues
• Promote an environment that supports diversity and reflects the HSBC brand
Observation of Internal Controls
• Maintains HSBC internal control standards, including timely implementation of internal and external audit points together with any issues raised by external regulators
Qualifications
• Seven years proven credit policy and/or credit risk management experience, or equivalent. Knowledge and understanding of financial services preferred
• Bachelor's degree in mathematics, statistics, finance, economics, related field or equivalent experience; Masters Degree preferred
• Strong management, interpersonal, organizational, analytical, problem-solving, negotiation, project management and verbal and written communication skills
• Proficiency with personal computers as well as pertinent mainframe systems and software packages
