Job Description Summary
Transamerica is looking for a talented, sharp, and creative Actuary with strong business acumen to support the Market Consistent Reporting team within the Accumulation & Retirement Products Actuarial Function. The actuarial function within the Accumulation and Retirement product group is responsible for the financial reporting on all of Transamerica’s institutional and retail wealth management products.
• The individual will partner with his or her colleagues and management on the actuarial team to ensure appropriate modeling and reporting of our products, the actuarial model development team to ensure appropriate updates to all of our models, the ALM reporting group to appropriately reflect our hedging and risk management strategies on our balance sheet and income statement, the ALM strategy group to ensure appropriate understanding of our economic risk positions for risk strategy development, and with our Group Risk function to ensure appropriate and consistent reporting of net risk positions to our Chief Actuary, CFO, Corporate Risk, and business leadership.
• Interpret, prepare and present key actuarial information to advise Senior Management to make properly informed decisions.
• Typically a management role guiding the work of other actuaries or doing the most complex technical actuarial tasks requiring significant knowledge and experience.
• Interpret and explain actuarial and financial information.
• Provide guidance and advice regarding technical actuarial issues such as pricing rates, modeling methodology, reserving principles and related matters.
• Drive key projects to completion by providing leadership and direction to individuals both inside and outside the organization. Generally, leads several key recurring projects throughout the year.
• Lead the development of actuarial talent within the organization.
Qualifications:
• FSA or equivalent professional designation along with Bachelor’s degree in Actuarial Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Economics or related field and 7 years of relevant experience.
• In lieu of Bachelor’s will accept Master’s in a listed discipline and 5 years of relevant experience.
• In lieu of FSA will accept ASA or equivalent professional designation and 12 years of relevant experience.
Preferred Qualifications:
• The ideal candidate should have a solid understanding of Risk Neutral valuation/price theory and a strong understanding of the models underneath.
• An understanding of and experience with derivatives and/or asset management is a strong plus.
