The Role
The AVP, Corporate Financial Planning and Analysis provides leadership and oversight of LFG’s strategic and financial planning processes for its businesses and various functional departments. In addition, he/she is responsible for providing leadership and oversight of LFG’s financial performance and provides financial leadership within the strategic investment process.
Responsibilities
• Directs the effective implementation, integration, and execution of Corporate FP&A strategic and tactical plan initiatives. Directs and coordinates LFG’s annual planning processes (Strategic Plan, Sales Plan, and Expense budget) and periodic re-forecasts efforts
• Provides financial leadership to Strategic plan process in partnership with business unit strategy and finance teams
• Analyzes GAAP and Statutory Income Statements and Balance Sheets
• Prepares and presents financial reviews along with recommendations to senior management and other stakeholders
• Directs/executes approved strategy decisions and contributes to strategy creation for assigned area(s) of responsibility.
• Improves understanding of enterprise expense efficiency, including assembly of analysis and ratios
• Coordinates the Quarterly Business Review process for the organization
• Provides financial leadership within major project and strategic investment governance process including review of Cost Benefit Analysis (CBA’s) and integration within planning process
• Contributes to the strategy development of the Corporate Planning and Capital Management team
• Directs/executes approved strategy decisions and contributes to strategy creation for assigned area(s) of responsibility as well as strategic direction to build and enhance the capability for his/her assigned area(s) of responsibility.
• Directs and enhances organizational initiatives by positively influencing and supporting change management and/or departmental/enterprise initiatives within assigned area(s) of responsibility.
• Provides subject matter expertise to team members and applicable internal/external stakeholders on complex assignments/projects for his/her assigned area(s) of responsibility.
• Identifies and directs strategic process improvements that significantly improve quality across the team, department and/or business unit for assigned area(s) of responsibility.
• Maintains knowledge on current and emerging developments/trends for assigned area(s) or responsibility, assess the impact, and collaborates with senior management to incorporate new trends and developments in current and future strategies.
Requirements
Education
• 4 Year/Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience (4 years of experience in lieu of Bachelor's)in accounting, finance, business administration or related field
• MBA, CPA, CFA, or FSA preferred
Experience
• 10+ years of progressively increasing experience in Finance/Accounting related role within the Insurance industry
• Sound technical knowledge of insurance products and life insurance accounting and reporting requirements, especially universal life products and variable annuities
• Working knowledge of GAAP and Stat insurance accounting
• Ability to prepare complex spreadsheets to calculate highly technical accounting requirements or analyze questions
• Apply understanding of actuarial theory and concepts to topics related to valuation of insurance liabilities and intangible assets, such as discounting and related cost of capital calculations
• Demonstrated track record of consistently meeting and/or exceeding performance expectations
• Leading people and managing relationships in a matrix organization
• Leading and working in operations #LI-CG1
