The Sr. Operational Risk Specialist will support the Operational Risk Process Manager with all risk activities related to the business lines. Primary responsibilities will be focused on monitoring of issues and remediation activities for all lines of business within the Consumer Banking Business Unit Risk Management team to ensure timely updates, reporting and escalation of issues to Management where necessary. This includes partnership with various partners for review and approval as well as independent review and validation of remediation submissions.
• Other key activities include identification and communication of emerging risks in all assignments and assessing control design, testing and monitoring of control effectiveness through the performance of quality assurance procedures.
• Additional activities may include working with data to develop key risk metrics to monitor where key risks are changing, actively facilitating meetings with support areas or business partners and providing training.
• In addition the Sr. Operational Risk Specialist will participate in assessing, tracking and reporting results of various risk management activities, Special Project coordination as the need arises and will represent BURM on committees related to entity-wide risks as well as respond to questions from senior management.
Qualifications
Additional Information:
• Requires a BA or BS degree, 7+ years experience in operations management, internal or external audit or other risk management functions within a financial institution.
• Excellent organizational skills.
• Excellent communication skills, both oral and written.
• Must be highly proficient with Microsoft Power Point, Excel, Visio.
• Ability to use sound judgement to resolve issues and facilitate progress against objectives.
• Experience with a variety of reporting tools a plus (e.g., Business Objects).
• Must be flexible and able to balance several priorities at once.
• Strong analytical skills and good judgment.
• Demonstrated abilities in end-to-end process flow development; identification and documentation of operational risks and controls; and controls testing.
• Experience with developing or monitoring key risk indicator (KRIs) metrics.
• Experience in financial institutions and finance organizations is desired.
• Ability to build relationships with people at all levels.
• Ability to present and interact with all levels of management including executive leadership.
• Experience in public accounting, audit, and/or professional services is desired.
