Job Description
This highly-visible, mission-critical Senior Risk Modeler position is in Discover’s highly-regarded and growing Credit Risk Management Department. In this position, you will be an integral part of the Decision Management /Acquisition Modeling team. The primary responsibilities include the development and implementation of acquisition models and analytical capabilities using the advanced data mining tools and the best-in-class data sources. Specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
• Working with team members and business partners to design, develop, implement, and monitor acquisition risk models, on –us and off-us behavior models, Line and pricing frameworks and new strategic projects to meet business requirements.
• Working independently, with limited guidance, leading projects and providing guidance to team staff in modeling and analytics.
• Constantly striving to enhance model discrimination power by evaluating new data sources, identifying new variables, and innovating or adopting new modeling techniques.
• Maintaining a high level of understanding of competency in statistical and analytical principles, tools, and advanced techniques, including knowledge in UNIX, programming skills in SAS / SQL, and any other statistical software used in Discover.
• Establishing and maintaining a thorough understanding of risk, financial and business impact of key business variables in Discover’s overall business.
• Proactively identifying trends or developments that may impact business plan and performance or which may present opportunities. Keeping functional areas and management abreast of such findings.
Skills
• M.S. or PhD in Economics, Statistics, Mathematical Finance, Operations Research, Engineering or related fields or any equivalent degree
• Minimum 2-3 years work experience in scorecard modeling and/or predictive modeling, and analytics, from financial services industry (e.g. banking, credit cards, insurance, or analytics consulting, or similar).
• High degree of proficiency with statistical software and other analytical tools (SAS, SQL, Excel in PC or UNIX environment for data pulling, reporting, and modeling analysis).
• Excellent problem solving skill with ability to think out-of-the-box for creative solutions,
• Proven project management skills with ability to independently manage projects, meet deadlines and follow through on completion of key deliverables.
• Excellent communication (oral and written), interpersonal and organizational skills.
• Promote a risk-aware culture; ensure efficient and effective risk and compliance management practices by adhering to required standards and processes.
