Summary of This Role
Overall responsibility for managing the tax affairs of the company and its domestic and foreign affiliates. Manages activities regarding tax compliance, tax planning, tax accounting and audit for federal, state, local, and/or foreign taxes. Works with global businesses and tax professionals in carrying out his or her responsibilities. Ensures timely and accurate filing of tax returns. Assesses tax implications surrounding pending mergers and acquisitions and business initiatives. Recommends ways to minimize corporate tax through use of tax laws and regulations. Oversees the maintenance of tax records and the preparation of composite tax returns and related reports to ensure compliance with all federal, state, local, and/or foreign tax regulations.
What Part Will You Play
• Oversight responsibility for the preparation and timely filing of the federal and state income tax returns for local and global subsidiaries. Overall responsibility for the preparation and review of accounting for federal and state income tax provisions in accordance with ASC 740. Address partnership issues that may arise under ASC 740 including inside and outside basis differences. Assess risks of tax positions and analysis and calculations of FIN 48 exposures. Manages programs to ensure the accuracy and completeness of the worldwide income tax provision process which includes international and domestic entities, including the preparation and review of the Enterprise's effective tax rate, current payable, deferred tax balances, uncertain tax positions, and reporting of all financial statement disclosures.
• Ensures effective data gathering and timely completion of compliance and tax accounting requirements. Enforce tax compliance process associated with preparation of partnership returns. Acts as in house expert for the tax aspect of financial and operational matters.
• Advises management and business units with respect to mergers, acquisitions, dispositions, business contractions, and expansions, contract negotiations with customers and vendors to ensure that the tax positon of the company is optimized. Performs due diligence on the tax aspects, exposures, and implications related to proposed M&A’s. Manages tax accounting for mergers and acquisitions, including the impact of acquisitions on the balance sheet under GAAP.
• Adheres to international sections of US tax code. Oversees the enforcement of EU tax laws and regulations related to intercompany transactions, concepts, pricing concepts and setting of intercompany charges and management fees.
• Manages federal and state income tax audits, including Appellate level of IRS, and state and local filings. Deal with auditors and negotiate agreements. Manages litigation related to tax affairs as the need arises.
• Plans for federal income tax credits (R&E) and accounting methods.
• Ensures laws and regulations that govern sales and use tax liabilities in the electronic transaction processing industry are adhered to. Ensures that policies, procedures and controls are documented and in place to meet internal and external audit requirements.
• Serves in a key leadership position over a team of tax professionals. Mentors and develops tax staff as necessary. Communicates corporate, division, and department information openly with team members through regular staff meetings and other communications. Serves as escalation point, exercises independent action and handles non-routine issues without referral to management for input or recommendations. Makes decisions which typically affect a cost center, department or the entire enterprise.
• Provides Budget and Forecast data and variance analysis. Performs tax research and planning activities and assesses tax consequences / opportunities surrounding pending disposals, mergers and acquisitions.
• Manages multiple significant projects which materially impact the financial results of the enterprise while adhering to strict deadlines. Also manages non income tax functions such as Sales and Use Taxes, Property Tax and Unclaimed Property. Oversees VAT and GST related compliance and planning
• May be called upon to provide input to proposed tax legislation on the state or federal level.

What Are We Looking For in This Role
Minimum Qualifications
• Typically a minimum of 10 years’ Experience: Related professional experience including a minimum of 5-6 years’ experience in a managerial position.
• 15+ years’ Experience: Preparing and reviewing federal and state income tax provisions of a public company in accordance with ASC 740.
• Bachelor's Degree: Accounting, finance or related degree or qualifying certification (CPA, CMA, ACA, CIMA, ACCA Certification)
Preferred Qualifications
• Master's Degree: LLM or MS Tax or masters in a related field of study from an accredited university.
• CPA or other relevant certifications
• JD from an accredited law school
• Experience in tax issues faced by payments industry
