Job Description
This individual will be responsible for performing compliance reviews across various functional areas and business units of OppenheimerFunds. The individual will plan and conduct compliance reviews in order to determine whether activities are being performed in accordance with applicable laws and regulations. The individual must possess a broad understanding of an investment management firm’s businesses and its functions, develop compliance reviews to address the applicable risks and activities, and provide reporting to relevant stakeholders. The role is also responsible for contributing to the Compliance Testing program’s effectiveness and value through continually enhancing quality, coverage, timeliness and accuracy.
Responsibilities & Deliverables:
• Review and assess adherence to internal policies and procedures, as well as compliance with governing laws and regulations
• Assess risk(s) and the design and effectiveness of controls for each review to accurately depict and conclude on the degree of compliance with applicable laws, regulations and internal policies and procedures
• Conduct interviews and walkthrough with Business Unit employees
• Document test work and draft test reports in accordance with Testing Standards.
• Prepare reports for senior management and to the Funds Board of Directors that clearly and concisely capture the backgrounds, testing approaches and results, and conclusions of compliance testing activities
• Develop collegial and effective working relationships with team members and business partners
• Work closely with business line and infrastructure teams to develop remediation plans to resolve control weaknesses identified through testing and confirm remedial actions have sufficiently addressed the identified control weaknesses
• Assist in the development of the annual testing plan
• Monitor regulatory activities and industry developments to identify trends and emerging issues that may have an impact our business and the compliance testing program
Qualifications
• Minimum 5-7 years’ experience in Financial Services Industry, in an Investment Management firm’s compliance, auditing or risk function preferred, previous experience with regulatory agency a plus
• Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or related business field
• Demonstrated knowledge of SEC, FINRA, ERISA and other federal and state and foreign regulations (UCITS)
• Working knowledge of a wide variety of security types, including equities, fixed income (money market, municipal bonds, loans and derivatives)
• Significant specific industry knowledge and experience in relation to portfolio management and trading activities, marketing, sales, technology, finance, transfer agent and other operational areas of an investment management business
• Experience with key investment management systems (e.g., trade order management, accounting, Bloomberg) a plus
• Proficiency in the complete MS Office suite is required, especially in Excel, Word and PowerPoint
• Demonstrated excellent and effective verbal and written communication skills, including strong negotiation and influence capabilities
• Excellent interpersonal skills necessary to work effectively with colleagues of all levels of seniority
• Developed investigative skills: inquiry and analysis, interviewing
• Ability to learn and absorb information quickly and apply strategic thinking to understand the impact of issues and associated risks
• Commitment to excellence and continual improvement
• Self-starter with strong motivation, proven results orientation and consistent track record
• Strong organization, planning and time management skill to manage multiple priorities and tasks effectively in a fast-paced environment to meet established deadlines
