The Alternative Markets Division of Great American Insurance Group is a leader in the development of long-term, profitable captive partnerships with agents, associations, and large accounts (via group or single entity captive structures). We are also building non-captive program partnerships with retail agents who have distinguished themselves as experts in a particular class or industry.
Alternative Markets is currently searching for a Claim Supervisor. The role of the supervisor will be to coordinate and supervise the day-to-day activities of the inland marine claims team. This position is a hands-on, working supervisor. We will rely on your ability to coordinate the work activities within the unit while investigating property claims.
Responsibilities
• Supervises employees and provides file guidance.
• Investigates and maintains property claims.
• Reviews and determines coverage and / or liability.
• Secures and analyzes necessary information (i.e., reports, policies, appraisals, releases, statements, reports or other documents) in the investigation of claims.
• Works toward the resolution of claims files, and attends arbitrations, mediations, dispositions or trials as necessary.
• May affect settlements / reserves within prescribed limits and submit recommendations to supervisor on cases exceeding personal authority.
• Ensures that claims payments are issued in a timely and accurate manner.
• Ensures that claims handling is conducted in compliance with applicable statues, regulations and other legal requirements, and that all applicable company procedures and policies are followed.
• Advises reporting staff on claim files and extends settlement authority as necessary after reviewing files.
• May establish reserves and make recommendations or reports for Corporate Claims or senior management.
• Coordinates the work activities within the unit. Responsible for day-to-day work and procedures. Assigns and checks work.
• Successfully completes all licensing, coursework and education as required.
• Responsible for performance, development and coaching of staff (i.e., hiring, firing, performance management, salary increases, etc.). Provides training to new members of the team and
• Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
• Bachelor's degree of equivalent experience.
• Minimum of 3-5 years of experience handling commercial property claims to include high levels of claim handling authority. Supervisory experience a plus.
• Experience managing and handling a high number of files.
• Possesses a high and extensive level of technical knowledge and skills.
• Must have the ability to motivate and develop a cohesive team.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills and be highly detailed and organized in their work.
• Implements Claims policy under the direction of higher level management.
• Continued professional development is a requirement of this position, including work toward the AIC (Associates in Claims) designation if candidate does not already hold the designation.
