SUMMARY
Responsible for the management and strategic direction of the mortgage underwriting department. This individual will work closely with the Director of Sales and Director of Mortgage Operations in simplifying the client experience while driving quality and consistency in the underwriting of mortgage loans.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
• Provide leadership to the underwriting management team responsible for underwriting mortgage loans to FNMA; FHLMC; FHA/VA; portfolio; private-investor; and Ability-to-Repay guidelines.
• Maintain the Credit Policy for the respective area recommending adjustments as necessary
• Responsible for overseeing the daily distribution of files in underwriting to ensure all loans are underwritten within service level agreements and Reg B guidelines.
• Stays abreast and ensures department’s compliance with all regulatory and investor changes.
• Responsible for improving/maintaining the mortgage underwriting quality working with quality control, post closing, and various investors.
• Working with corporate credit determine the appropriate credit authority levels for underwriting and senior management.
• Subject matter expert in the creation of secondary market and portfolio credit products.
• Performs other projects and duties as assigned
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
Directly responsible for directing, coordinating, and evaluating designated units or certain personnel in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities may include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; providing pay change recommendations; disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
QUALIFICATIONS
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Additionally, the qualifications listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills, and/or abilities required in this position:
• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent and 10+ years of related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
