Job Summary
CNA and its affiliates engage in hundreds of reinsurance and related agreements each year. This position will be central to assisting various business units understand and finalize reinsurance transactions of all kinds, including captive arrangements, international fronting, intercompany agreements, ceded and assumed transactions, as well as facultative and treaty agreements. The ideal candidate will have strong organizational, communication, and negotiation skills in order to resolve internal, external and regulatory requirements.
CNA is seeking a senior level individual contributor representing a high level of technical expertise in a specialty area, to evaluate, interpret as well as negotiate and draft contracts and other legal documents and to provide legal advice for a business unit or specialty area.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
1. Reviews, interprets, evaluates and approves contractual language ensuring company's interests are protected and in compliance with applicable laws and regulations.
2. Drafts legal documents including, but not limited to letters, contracts, applications, agreements and other legally binding materials.
3. Negotiates terms, changes and amendments to contracts and other legal documents.
4. Tracks contracts through to completion, and ensures timely resolution of all issues.
5. Acts as designated technical resource.
6. Cultivates and facilitates relationships with clients, internal and external business partners.
7. May provide guidance to less experienced staff.
8. Provides expertise on special projects.
9. Stays up to date on trends and developments within the functional area as well as the insruance industry.
May perform additional duties as assigned.

Skills, Knowledge & Abilities
1. Advanced technical knowledge of specialty area (including related laws and regulations), the insurance industry and organizational practices and procedures.
2. Excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills.
3. Proven negotiation skills with the ability to effectively interact and foster collaborative relationships with all internal and external business partners.
4. Strong consultative and facilitation skills and the ability to exercise independent judgment.
5. Strong project management and analytical and problem solving skills.
6. Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite as well as other business-related software.
Education & Experience
1. Master's degree, or equivalent with JD or other legal certification a plus.
2. Typically a minimum of ten years legal or contract writing experience.
