Senior Director, Corporate Communications
Job Summary
Visa’s senior director of corporate communications will advance Visa’s corporate reputation, strategic business objectives and long-term goals by leading Visa’s corporate communications and media relations activities. The ideal candidate is a hands-on, senior communications professional with exceptional general corporate communications and media relations/social media capabilities. The senior director of corporate communications will serve as the primary contact to media, including traditional, social and digital. In addition, the senior director will provide input into the development of integrated marketing and communications strategies and oversee their execution, in cooperation with his/her corporate communications colleagues. The senior director also will deliver strategic corporate reputation and communications counsel to Visa’s executive management to help the organization maintain its positive reputation among key stakeholders. The role reports to the head of corporate communications.
Responsibilities
• Help set the strategic direction of Visa’s corporate communications and media efforts, including collaborating with senior management to secure buy-in and engagement on executive visibility and media initiatives that are aligned with Visa’s business objectives.
• Serve as media counselor and strategist to senior management. Coach senior executives.
• Provide strategic day-to-day media relations counsel to others on the global corporate communications team, including, but not limited to, innovation, security, core products, brand and sponsorship, merchant services, financial communications, public affairs and issues management.
• Partner with other leaders on Visa’s global communications team to provide tools, expertise and counsel to help advance local market business objectives.
• Lead the identification, development, pitching and placement of Visa-related stories in top tier business, consumer and financial media worldwide, in print, digital and broadcast outlets.
• Develop and maintain strong, productive relationships with top tier, global business, financial, consumer technology and innovation press to communicate Visa’s corporate objectives. Ultimately these relationships will result in ongoing positive/balanced media coverage for Visa. Must have credibility and contacts with top-tier national media.
• Serve as a spokesperson for Visa on a broad range of subjects.
• Develop high-quality written materials that convey Visa’s corporate narrative, including messaging platforms, press releases, blogs, Q&As, speeches, editorials, infographics etc.
• Build and maintain a strong network of business partners across all levels of the global organization.
• Engage with senior executives to promote industry-leading initiatives, and increase the overall positive industry awareness for the company through executive visibility programs, including speaking opportunities.
• Collaborate with the public affairs and issues management team on the early detection, identification and proper handling of opportunities or situations that may have a direct impact on Visa’s corporate reputation.
• Develop and manage internal processes to enhance global coordination and alignment of communications activities (e.g., disclosure and media policies)
• Employ social/digital media strategies to advance Visa’s business and communications goals.
Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s degree; Minimum 10 years public relations/communications experience
• Established corporate communications and media relations skills. Must have proven experience managing top-tier press for leading brand(s)
• Strong understanding of changing media landscape
• Experience in building and managing media programs that deliver measurable results
• Experience coaching senior executives
• Active presence on social/digital platforms
• Understanding of how to use data and research to drive efforts
• Experience working in an integrated marketing & communications function
• Previously experience overseeing communications for major product launches
• Strong knowledge in technology and financial services industries
• Conversant in media measurement and analytics
• Proven ability to think ahead, engage proactively and take initiative
• Self-starter approach to work and strong problem solver
• Stellar writing and editing skills – PowerPoint plan development, news releases, fact sheets, talking points, executive briefing documents
• Excellent persuasive written and verbal communications skills, including interpersonal and presentation skills
• Ability to work effectively in a matrixed environment and with blurry boundaries regarding roles/responsibilities
• Ability to work remotely with limited supervision
• Ability to not take him/herself too serious and a sense of humor.
• Proven track record of managing staff and or/agency teams to achieve measureable results.
