Operational Risk Management works with the business units and control groups to help ensure Morgan Stanley has a transparent, consistent and comprehensive program for managing operational risk, both within each area and across the firm globally. Operational risk is the risk of financial loss or other potential damage to the firm’s reputation due to inadequate or failed internal processes, people, systems, or from external events. This group designs, implements and monitors the company-wide operational risk program.
Background on the Position
Morgan Stanley Operational Risk Department (ORD) is seeking a candidate to manage the Operational Risk Data & Reporting (ORDR) team. The team focuses on the development and implementation of Business Intelligence (BI) solutions to support Firm operational risk management. The ORDR team is a hybrid business and technology team comprised of both business analysts and BI developers with members in New York and in Budapest, Hungary. The role will require the global management of initiatives while working closely with the risk managers, technology service providers and key stakeholders.
Primary Responsibilities
-Manage ORD business intelligence and reporting projects by ensuring on time delivery and a high level of quality
-Ensure the global team executes on deliverables and reports status / escalates challenges
-Act as a liaison and primary communication channel between ORD and IT on requirements development, status communication, issue resolution, project execution and prioritization
-Develop and maintain strategic program roadmap, project plans and milestones
-Lead project working groups, workshops and meetings
-Manage gathering of business requirements, functional specification reviews, creation of test plans, and co-ordinate testing and signoffs
-Participate in IT sprint planning sessions and lead project prioritization sessions when applicable
-Ensure key risks and issues are identified, documented, mitigated and communicated to the appropriate stakeholders in a timely manner
-Execute on project management processes including risk and issue management, dependency management, status reporting, and change control.
-Provide pre and post implementation support, including training materials development and user education
Qualifications
Skills required (essential)
-Experience with managing business intelligence development initiatives
-Ability to manage multiple projects utilizing industry standard project management practices
-Experience in managing all stages of a project lifecycle, including planning, requirements gathering, analysis, designing, documentation, testing and rollout
-Strong analytical and problem solving skills
-Experience with relational databases and data models
-Knowledge of SQL and the ability to query complex data sets within a relational database
-Knowledge of dashboard design concepts and best practices
-Capable of communicating clearly and concisely to various levels of audiences and to both business and IT
-Strong oral and written presentation skills
-Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
-5-7 years of relevant management experience
-Experience within a financial institution or consultancy
Skills desired
-Experience with Business Intelligence toolsets such as QlikView or Tableau
-Knowledge of Operational Risk management framework
-Knowledge of general risk management concepts including statistics, stress testing and scenario analysis is a strong plus
-Knowledge of Python, R or VBA programming languages
-Experience with Agile methodology
