Zurich is currently looking to add a Sr. Workers Compensation Paralegal for its Staff Legal Office in Chicago, Illinois.
Under the supervision of an attorney, this role provides legal support such as legal and documentary research; drafting legal documents, correspondence and pleadings; maintaining and updating files; monitoring case schedules and filing deadlines; conducting interviews; summarizing depositions, medical records, and other discovery. Their work will be in support of moderate to complex Workers Compensation defense cases (e.g. case work, research, subpoenas, etc.).
Influencer Internally Focused - The job’s core deliverables rely on influencing or negotiating with a range of internal clients, usually at the line manager or employee level. Relationships typically involve promoting cooperation, collaboration or acceptance.
The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in dealing with medical issues and personal injury claims in Illinois
Basic Requirements:
• Associate Degree in Law or Paralegal Studies and 4 or more years of experience in the Legal Support area to include experience with medical issues and personal injury claims
OR
• Zurich Certified Insurance Apprentice including an Associate Degree in Law or Paralegal Studies and 4 or more years of experience in the Legal Support area to include experience with medical issues and personal injury claims
AND
• Experience conducting electronic database research
• Experience drafting legal documents, correspondence, and/or pleadings
• Experience in litigation legal support
Preferred Requirements:
• Bachelor’s degree
• Workers Compensation defense support experience
• One or more professional certifications:
◦ CORE Registered Paralegal (CRP)
◦ PACE Registered Paralegal (PRP)
◦ Certified Paralegal (CP)
◦ Certified Legal Assistant (CLA)
◦ Professional Paralegal (PP)
• Strong ability to effectively conduct electronic database research, including LexisNexis, WestLaw, and/or NILS
• Highly effective written and verbal communication; ability to summarize information clearly and concisely
• Excellent computer skills, including Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
• Demonstrated ability to effectively organize, prioritize, and meet deadlines for multiple, simultaneous projects
• Demonstrated ability to successfully work independently as well as within a team
• Previous experience in litigation legal support and familiarity with litigation management software
