Purpose of Job
Ensures operational risks are being proactively and effectively identified, assessed, mitigated, monitored, and reported to the Enterprise senior leadership. The leader will ensure the business is adhering to the USAA’s Operational Risk Framework and Procedures. Provides expert advice on related subject matter and work to continuously improve the operational efficiency and effectiveness of operational risk management processes.
Job Requirements
• Leads the strategic development, implementation and oversight of effective risk frameworks. Works across functions and lines of business to understand current risk environment and ensure appropriate mitigation strategies are in place.
• Creates and aligns risk profiles and risk appetites of lines of business and staff areas with enterprise risk appetite. Actively engages line of business and staff management to ensure risks are addressed in a timely manner and in alignment with risk appetite/profile.
• Develops appropriate risk dashboards and reporting formats in alignment with risk appetite/profile and assures effective and timely reporting to executive management and the Board of Directors. Identifies, quantifies and aggregates risks using advanced risk analytics and conducts periodic risk assessments to ensure appropriate actions are taken as required.
• Works with senior leadership to refine risk profile, risk appetite, and key risk metrics. Support senior leadership and Senior Risk Officers with administration of executive-level risk councils and committees. Supports senior leadership in reporting and responding to the Federal Reserve, OCC and other pertinent regulatory bodies pertaining to risk management. Participates in key risk committees as appropriate.
• Sets the agenda, builds high-performing teams, and sells the vision. Ensures training and coaching of employees, mentoring and developing analysts, and provides the team with development opportunities.
Required:
• Bachelor's Degree in Risk Management, Finance, Business, or other discipline required.
• 10 or more years of progressive related experience developing strategies, managing major initiatives and delivering results within a complex matrix environment required.
• 4 or more years of people leadership experience in building, managing and/or developing high-performing teams.
• Experience collaborating with key resources and stakeholders, influencing decisions and managing work to achieve strategic goals required.
Preferred:
• 10 or more years’ experience at a large financial institution implementing and maintaining an enterprise-wide operational risk management program that adheres to regulatory requirements and expectations
• Significant knowledge of operational risk framework execution including: risk governance; risk appetite; process, risk and control analysis; control effectiveness measurement; risk management coverage plan (monitoring, assessment and testing); internal and external operational loss analysis; scenario analysis; and, capital adequacy planning
• Executive level business acumen in the areas of operational risk, operations, industry practices and emerging trends
• Demonstrated leadership experience in building and retaining high performing operational risk teams within a matrixed organization
• Proven capability to communicate effectively across the 1st and 2nd Lines of Defense and build collaborative relationships. Significant experience in collaborating with key resources and stakeholders, influencing decisions, and managing work to achieve required strategic goals.
• Proven ability to influence at senior levels of the organization
• Strong verbal and written communication skills in both preparing and presenting executive level communication materials.
