Primary Job Duties & Responsibilities
• Oversee the development and implementation and execution of a comprehensive internal communications program to deliver a clear narrative on the T&O vision and strategy, leveraging a variety of current and emerging channels.
• Demonstrate a deep level of communications expertise to ensure a successful implementation of internal communications that is aligned with business objectives.
• Deliver communications across internal audiences, partnering with content and channel owners to ensure a comprehensive and integrated approach.
• Think creatively, take smart risks and address tough issues as they arise.
• As the senior-most Communications resource for T&O, guide and counsel senior leaders on the development of communications objectives, strategies and content to ensure that communications and messaging is consistent and strategically aligned.
• Coach leaders, plan and execute regular all-hands and other employee meetings and create innovative ways to communicate that information and motivate employees. Counsel and support leadership on communications approaches and employee engagement.
• Demonstrate a thorough understanding of Travelers’ business strategies and ensure that strategic business messages are integrated into internal communications.
• Develop and maintain close, productive relationships with teams across T&O, Communications, Human Resources, Legal and the businesses to ensure alignment.
• Demonstrate ability to influence and drive change with key stakeholders.
• Oversee, manage and mentor members of the Communications team to develop their individual expertise as business partners and trusted advisors. Recruit new team members, as needed.
• Create a vision for the Communications department to be recognized as experts in communications and communications strategies at Travelers.
• Ensure editorial standards of excellence and that enterprise approval processes, templates and brand guidelines are followed in the development of all communications materials.
• Measure effectiveness of assigned internal communications through qualitative and quantitative methods.

Job Summary
We are seeking a high-energy, collaborative and effective Communications leader for the Technology & Operations (T&O) organization at Travelers. As a member of the extended Technology & Operations Leadership Team, this professional will be responsible for developing and implementing a comprehensive communications program that supports T&O’s vision, strategy and roadmap.
This self-motivated and passionate Communications leader will manage a dedicated team of T&O Communications professionals and work with Communications colleagues from across the company to bring the T&O vision and strategy to life and help T&O colleagues understand how we are executing on our multiyear roadmap. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of the Travelers business model and must have a proven track record of being able to win the respect of other leaders and partners across a decentralized organization. This is a critical attribute to effectively guiding, influencing and relaying the T&O vision, strategy and roadmap.
Collaboration is a key foundational element at Travelers. Part of T&O’s vision, strategy and roadmap is to ensure that Travelers is meeting the collaboration demands of our employees, our customers and our agent partners. We would expect this Communications leader to understand these complexities and develop a communications program so Travelers employees feel aligned to and supported by T&O and our offerings, services and resources.
The position reports to the Senior Vice President, Strategy/Finance/Communications with matrixed reporting to Corporate Communications for Travelers.
In addition to the above, the ideal candidate will be able to partner with T&O leaders, business partners and leaders of key initiatives to design, plan and execute:
• A comprehensive internal communications program. This program will enhance and support T&O’s vision and strategy; help T&O employees understand the progress we’re making on our road map; and reinforce Travelers’ collaborative culture and character.
• A new internal social media program for the T&O community. This work will entail shaping and leading a strong launch, together with training, executive support and a solid stream of content to ensure high initial engagement and ongoing success.
• An external communications talent acquisition strategy, in collaboration with Corporate Communications and Human Resources. This strategy will support the T&O imperative to establish Travelers as a technology employer of choice, especially for our emerging needs.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in English, journalism, communications or minimum of 8 years of related communications experience. Minimum of 4 years of management experience.
Education, Work Experience & Knowledge
• Bachelor’s degree in English, journalism or communications.
• 12+ years of experience in corporate communications or a related field.
