General Summary:
The VP, Strategy role formalizes the company’s strategic planning processes, leads the development of strategy, and translates it for associates across all business units. This position coordinates and collaborates to effectively drive organizational change, and establishes transparency and accountability to the company’s strategic initiatives. He/she influences the DSW Inc. executive committee to develop, communicate, implement, and sustain strategic initiatives and change management activities. The role contributes to the company’s performance through cohesive strategic planning and execution. Active engagement with CEO, CFO and business presidents to create and drive strategy.
Reports to: Chief Administrative Officer
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
• Translates priorities to develop key strategic initiatives, which support long range organizational goals.
• Leads the organization through the strategic planning process from inception through implementation.
• Drives decision-making to ensure the leadership team utilizes the strategic objectives to achieve desired results.
• Measures performance and progress towards strategic goals, assesses effectiveness and recommends course corrections.
• Researches and advises the executive team on critical changes in the competitive landscape and global marketplace to recommend future strategic objectives.
• Researches and analyzes markets to assess strategic opportunities to grow the business and gain market share.
• Oversees company change management team; influences timing and direction of initiatives, analyzes change magnitude and communicates clearly in an effort to minimize disruption, increase adoption and protect associate morale.
Required Skills and Competencies:
• Excellent analytical skillset, with ability to identify an organization’s strengths and weaknesses and identify areas of improvement and growth.
• Ability to apply a variety of strategic frameworks to analyze problems and to guide and develop solutions
• Strong executive presence, communication, and presentation skills with the ability to translate and communicate complex topics in a variety of forums, tailor communication to effectively influence the target audience
• Ability to be an influential collaborator, demonstrating courage and an approachable style
• Strong project management skills
• Financial acumen with keen attention to the P&L and Long Range Financial Plan
Qualifications
Experience:
• Minimum of 10 years’ experience in strategic planning
• Direct responsibility for analyzing business needs, market trends, competitors, and competitive landscape
• Direct responsibility for analyzing and identifying an organization’s strengths and weaknesses and identify areas of improvement and growth
• Oversight of business development and/or strategic initiatives
Education:
• Bachelor’s degree

• Master’s degree, preferably MBA
