Director, Global Retail Design (VMSD), Clinique
SUMMARY:
Clinique is looking for a multifaceted and tactical Retail Designer with a strong balance between store design and
visual merchandising to join the Global Visual Merchandising and Store Design team reporting to the Executive
Director. This role will partner with the ED in the conceptualization, coordination, and successful execution of the
global Clinique Retail Experience through store design concepts and standards, specialty-multi channel (SMC) design
and development as well as eventing design/strategies for regional execution. This person will act as expert design
lead/architect, brand guardian and storyteller and overall support to the regions ensuring all Clinique retail formats
meet brand standards and aesthetics. The ideal candidate is a self-motivated multi-tasker, who thrives in a fastpaced
environment.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Manage all aspects of 3D environmental design as it relates to Clinique retail design principals and
merchandising strategies
• Propose and develop new design initiatives in line with Brand vision for FSSs, SMC and eventing efforts
• Work closely with Regional store design teams as first point of contact on submission, review of new store
plans/shop drawings and provide continual feedback/clarification to region’s queries
• Ensure clear communication, transfer of information and alignment of regional teams to maintain and build
collaborative and efficient process
• Concept, create and deliver strong eventing design solutions supporting in-store Visual Merchandising and
Marketing initiatives
• Partner with Director, Global VM and marketing to ensure store plans accurately fulfill seasonal merchandising
needs and selling strategies
• Partner with Corporate Procurement to leverage Global resources for fixtures and materials
• Maintain global FSS and wholesale global deployment & standards books ensuring compliance with current
building standards and Clinique aesthetics
• Prepare presentation documents for Senior Management reviews, regional presentations, and other
requirements as needed
• Maintain strong awareness of design trends and tech innovations within industry retail environments as well as
outside and an aptitude to translate these ideas into a retail space
• Maintain high quality brand standards and follow-through in projects while adhering to project defined guidelines
and timetables
• Ability to produce presentation drawings in 3D, knowledge of fixture construction and assembly are essential
• Maintain strong working knowledge of Clinique brand – its heritage, customers, products, retail environments as
well as direct competitors
• Cultivates relationships with multiple vendors with varying capabilities, maintaining an emphasis on quality
production, adherence to brand standards, and best practices
• Partner, coach and develop regional teams to understand corporate visual merchandising standards
• Archiving all relevant drawings, concepts and communication for each project
QUALIFICATIONS
• University degree in Architecture or Interior Design
• Minimum 7 years’ experience in architecture or corporate firms with focus on interior space planning, retail
design and fixture design - within beauty or accessories a plus
• Comprehensive working knowledge of AutoCad and Rhino. Proficient in Adobe Creative Suite (specifically
Photoshop, InDesign and Illustrator) and Office Suite
• Ability to design, detail and produce working construction drawings
• Strong working knowledge of architectural and fixture detailing
• Experience with managing processes to develop clear and concise design solutions aligned with business
strategies
• Effective time management. Ability to handle several projects simultaneously and react quickly in a fast pace
environment
• Excellent interpersonal/presentation skills to work with multiple business partners, cross-functional teams and to
manage stakeholder partnerships is a must
• Ability to work in both a highly collaborative team environment and independently
• Skilled at persuasion and decision-making when collaborating with vendors and internally
• Ability to anticipate and enthusiastically solve problems – logically and efficiently
• Be a proactive, goal-oriented team player with a positive ‘can-do’ attitude
• Be exceptionally organized with an eye toward facilitating processes, rather than enforcing them
• Impeccable design aptitude and conceptual thinking required
