Purpose (Brief summary of why role exists):
The Senior Director, Brand Design develops the framework and creative direction across brand design disciplines to create a strong, clear, consistent, compelling, and relevant brand for the consumer. The Senior Director defines and drives Brand Design disciplines including corporate identity, packaging, and collaborates cross-functionally to shape communications, retail, and digital consumer touchpoints across the brand. This role serves as a member of the creative leadership team, develops and nurtures creative culture, and empowers designers across the global creative community.
Key Accountabilities (List the 5-10 major areas of responsibility for role):
Co-create and drive long-term brand direction/attributes (Belief, Obsession, Mission, Positioning and Creative Direction)
Create and implement brand visual identity (look, feel, tone) for Reebok communications across consumer touch-points (image, photography, film, typography, color, graphic design, retail design, packaging design etc.)
Create and implement Reebok retail DNA across all formats and environments, including digital/mobile.
Define and shepherd Reebok branding/identity strategies and implementation
Develop and implement brand packaging guidance and implementation
Define organizational models and principles for Brand Design functions
Provide direction (input and evaluation of output) of external agency creative across consumer touch-points (image, photography, film, typography), breaking down vertical silos – encouraging a collective brand approach
Partner with and influence key stakeholders within the brand’s matrixed organization
Knowledge Skills and Abilities:
Deep functional knowledge across the various Brand Design disciplines with a strong understanding of processes
Extensive knowledge of Industry including a vision of future opportunities and challenges tied with creative strategies and judgement; ability to see and develop design excellence and innovation including the use of relevant design and Office software tools
Strategic thinking paired with strong executional abilities to Create the New: Drives organizational momentum through change management beyond own area with a strong focus on results
Consumer Obsessed: Identifies emerging niches and opportunities for the company and drives consumer brand success by generating consumer relevance, managing the external environment and enhance the company’s reputation
Leadership: Share vision, gain alignment and foster team spirit, manage budget and resources, effectively negotiate, influence and network to effectively manage interdependencies and the matrix
People Strategy: People judgement, organizational feedback, structural capability building efforts
Demonstrated ability in recruiting/selecting/developing talent and effectively evaluating talent, inspire, coach, and lead by setting framework for performance and growth
Live, Show, Coach: Establishes a collaborative culture and enduring partnerships, serves as a coach and mentor to empower, engage, and develop Reebok employees
Cultural sensitivity, facilitating rapport with internal and external team members, customers and stakeholders
Strong communication: Ability to visually and verbally present ideas and direction to diverse audiences
Qualifications (Minimum required education and experience):
Undergraduate level Design/Creative degree, Master level degree preferred
Minimum 12 years of experience in relevant design disciplines, brand, marketing, innovation and/or business
At least 7 years of creative leadership experience including managing teams, processes and projects across various disciplines
Proven track record of success – commercial success, design awards, critical success
The Reebok brand has moved their HQ to a 220,000 square-foot section of the Innovation and Design Building in Boston’s Seaport District.
