Director, Advanced Concepts - Basketball
Purpose
As a senior member of the Advanced Concepts team, you will help set the innovation vision and strategy for football on a 3-5 year horizon. The decisions you and the team make will shape the future of product, consumer engagement and desirability in one of the world’s most competitive industries for years to come.
You will help create holistic innovation experiences that span product to retail, defining milestones, working with other vertical & horizontal areas of the group and utilizing consumer insight to take these to market.
Key Responsibilities
• Drive Innovation projects from research to commercialization on a global basis.
• Immerse the team in the lives of the consumer to understand their needs, wants, and pain points – be consumer centric.
• Work closely with Sport BU to identify and build out innovation/concept roadmaps and partner as lead for athlete performance insights.
• Continually seek potential opportunities that will drive product Innovation and commercial opportunity within football.
• Drive and disseminate research in both soft (Psychological) and hard (Technical) Innovation. Develop a deep understanding of the sport, and consumer as well as key research. Work with universities, agencies, and partners to stay on the cutting edge of research in the sport.
• Collaborate and communicate with the trend group to understand macro and micro or vertical trends.
• Develop the story of the concept that translates into an Innovation experience. Hand over a complete concept story that takes the inline team and ultimately the consumer on a journey.
• Work with Technology partners to find new materials, techniques, constructions, and solutions for consumer pain points and to fulfill needs and desires.
• Manage internal team workflow to ensure that projects move forward in a timely manner.
• Hold regular meetings to educate, communicate project status, identify new opportunities and update the team on changes in project direction, timelines and priorities.
• Ensure the transition of projects to other BU functions smoothly and consult if needed.
• Drive the testing of products and materials for quality, fit, wear, and biomechanical properties to fulfill adidas standards.
• Set personal objectives, targets, guidelines and assess all direct reports.
• Develop the functional and social skills of direct reports on and off the job
• Identify and prepare talents in Advanced Concepts for career progression within the adidas organization
Requisite Education And Experience
• BA/BS degree in a related field e. g. sport science, engineering (mechanical, sports, material, electromechanical, etc.)
• 10+ years of relevant work experience w/ strong product development, product marketing background
• 8+ years of experience in sports & fitness
• Extensive knowledge of the product creation process and costing.
• Display a deep understanding of the consumer, the market and trends associated that shows a category specific competency.
• Ability to think strategically and execute methodically, with strong analytic and quantitative skills
• Strong presentation and communication skills – internal and external (media, university, and agency partners).
• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment where continuous innovation is a way of life
• Willingness to roll up your sleeves and do whatever it takes to help your team win.
