Creative Director - Original Penguin
As the Creative Director you will lead the creative and design process from concept all the way through to finished production ready samples. You will set the creative direction for the brand on a global and seasonal basis and be responsible for driving the brand’s point of view through evolved design and marketing. Your creative leadership will inspire storytelling that is emotionally, culturally and unique to the brand.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Responsible for setting the Original Penguin creative direction
• Create seasonal concept, color and trend direction for the brand across all product categories.
• Partner with Merchandising in seeking business opportunities and ensuring that product is consistent with market trends as well as business strategy; interprets international/domestic concepts and trends as it relates to market demands, brand image and business strategy.
• In partnership with Merchandising develop impactful showroom presentations and sales tools for market on a seasonal basis.
• Develop strong partnerships with the Sourcing and Development teams in delivering product that meets the seasonal requirements of the business.
• Domestic and International travel for design inspiration, factory visits, sales presentations with account buyers and trade shows.
• In partnership with the Golf Team define seasonal direction and aesthetic of the Original Penguin Golf line.
• Lead the creative process with regards to the Marketing team in the creation of the seasonal Art direction and seasonal campaign concepts.
• Final sign-off of all product and marketing assets for the Original Penguin brand.
• In collaboration with the Licensing team manage the brand aesthetic across all licensed product categories by building strong partnerships with the licensees and developing a clear understanding of each of their specific market needs.
• Present the Brand direction and Seasonal Sportswear line at the global Brand summit to internal and external license and distributor teams.
Manage design team:
• Train and develop the design team to work efficiently and to meet all deadlines.
• Perform yearly performance reviews and assign goals for each designer.
REQUIREMENTS:
• Comprehensive experience managing multiple categories of the business with a recognizable strength in woven tops, bottoms and outerwear.
• Ability to inspire a team and lead creative design process; to set a creative tone and to inspire ideas/new concepts; ability to conceptually visualize and build a line
• Experience of operating in varied global business models (licensed, distributor, wholesale, retail) with an ability to understand and execute consumer initiatives through these routes-to-market.
• Proven leadership/management skills.
• A leader with integrity; able to inspire confidence and deliver in a way that is true to OPG’s personality.
• Situationally adaptive. Curious (open minded) but decisive (drives to action) while able to switch from broad, strategic thinking to operational pragmatism.
• Great communicator with an ability to turn complex strategy into clear simple, actionable plans.
• Able to integrate, operate and influence inside and outside the business, building relationships and trust across business levels and diverse cultures and markets.
• Strong at problem solving, bold and resilient in decision making
• Objective and decisive; able to identify truly value-driving initiatives among a wide range of opportunities, then driving action to deliver that value
• Design process management skills- calendar, workload, innovative processes.
• Strong listening and negotiation skills and ability to interpret product feedback.
• Proven time management and organizational skills.
• Proven experience in building a lifestyle brand and driving the creative vision through multiple product categories.
• Bachelor’s Degree in Fashion Design.
• Minimum of ten years of design experience
• Minimum of 5-8 years of managing designers and working on design processes
