Does the idea of bringing new store designs to life in some of the coolest neighborhoods around the country send your heart racing? Are you an AutoCAD expert with a passion for retail? If you answered a resounding “yes” to both of those questions, we might have the job for you. Warby Parker is looking for a Design Project Manager to oversee the design process for all of our new retail locations from initial concepts to grand opening. In this position, you’ll ensure that our design aesthetics are maintained while also seeing that concepts are finalized, permits are obtained, and construction is complete in a timely fashion. Sound right up your alley? Read on!
What you’ll do:
• Create schematic designs—plus sketches and elevations as needed—for all new retail locations and coordinate review with internal teams
• Manage and coordinate design activities with architects, engineers, renderers, suppliers, and millwork vendors
• Oversee all phases of design development and ensure stakeholders are provided the information needed to complete construction drawings on time
• Review, redline, and approve all construction documents to make sure all storefront, millwork, and signage drawings are accurate and consistent
• Resolve all design-related comments from landlords while staying compliant with our design standards
• Collaborate with the Brand Visual team to guarantee the timely delivery of graphics and artwork
• Research and source all finish and millwork materials, staying true to design intent and while also working toward cost reduction
• Participate in the collaborative design of new store concepts, millwork, and display fixtures
• Identify and resolve issues that can adversely impact project schedules, costs, or design integrity
Who you are:
• Backed by 3–5 years professional experience in a similar role for retail
• Equipped with a degree in architecture or interior design
• Highly skilled in AutoCAD
• Proficient in Microsoft and Google suites
• A self-starter with the proven ability to work independently and on tight timelines
• An organizational powerhouse who can prioritize work and juggle responsibilities
• An excellent presenter and communicator, both verbally and visually
• Able (and excited!) to travel to new store sites
Extra credit:
• Experience with Expesite software
• Proficiency in Photoshop
About us:
Warby Parker was founded in 2010 with a lofty objective: to offer designer eyewear at a revolutionary price while leading the way for socially conscious businesses. By circumventing traditional channels and designing our frames in house, we’re able to offer insanely high-quality eyewear at decidedly non-insane prices (i.e., from $95 with prescription lenses—a fraction of the going price!).
In the last eight years, we’ve grown to over 60 retail locations in the U.S. and Canada, opened our first optical lab in upstate New York, and launched two of our own iOS apps. And for three years running, Fast Company has named us one of the world’s most innovative companies.
We also hold ourselves to the highest standards of social and environmental responsibility. This means lots of different things, like operating carbon-neutrally and distributing a pair of glasses to someone in need for every pair we sell. (We’re big believers that businesses can scale and be profitable while doing good in the world.)
Of course, all work and no play makes an extremely dull office, and no one likes an extremely dull office. (We sure don’t.) As an employee at Warby Parker, you can look forward to company outings, guest speakers, volunteering opportunities, and other brain- (and/or taste-bud-) stimulating activities. It also doesn’t hurt that our team is just great company.
Some benefits and perks of working at Warby Parker:
• Health, vision, and dental insurance
• Flexible “My Time” vacation policy
• Retirement savings plan with a company match
• Parental leave (non-birthing parents included)
• Cell phone plan reimbursement
• A health-and-wellness stipend
• Free eyewear (plus discounts for friends and family)
• And more (just ask!)
