Position Overview:
Rent the Runway is looking for a master of brand voice and storytelling to bring our brand to life through best-in-class content. Our brand is about creating a closetless future, access & democratization, freedom of self-expression, and female empowerment. This role will bring those values to life through brand voice and content strategy across all customer touchpoints. You will be responsible for leading a team of talented content strategists – together you will conceive and create content for all channels and platforms, from paid to brand to UX copy. Additionally, you’ll oversee the entire integrated marketing communications (IMC) process for dozens of marketing campaigns throughout the year – from brief definition to campaign execution. We’re looking someone with a roll-up-your sleeves mentality, who is both strategic and execution-oriented, to provide everything from brand creative direction to copywriting for marketing assets. This role requires a high level of creative vision, people leadership, and an innate drive for commercial business success.
Responsibilities:
• Lead brand voice across all consumer touchpoints, writing and editing messaging across the entire brand ecosystem, including but not limited to:
◦ Owned channels: site & app UX, email, retail, blog, SEO, social, etc.
◦ Paid advertising: social, podcasts, search, direct mail, etc.
◦ Earned/shared content: influencer, partnerships, customer community, etc.
• Provide creative direction on all marketing and product campaigns on the calendar, creating groundbreaking concepts that will help generate revenue, cultural buzz, and brand love with our customers.
• Lead the evergreen content brief process that results in strategic, effective, and award-winning editorial content development with our Creative and Production teams
• Develop planning and operational processes for marketing campaigns to ensure tight collaboration with rest of Marketing, Creative, Production, and Fashion stakeholders
• Create content amplification strategies to expand the reach of our brand stories and campaigns through existing or new channels
• Collaborate on external brand and designer partnerships to develop co-branded storytelling opportunities
• Maintain the marketing campaigns and communications calendar
• Manage talent and work flow among team of content strategists & copywriters, as well as the occasional freelancer
Ideal Candidate:
• Deeply customer centric, must understand the Rent the Runway woman, how to speak to her, inspire her, and engage her
• Able to see beyond the obvious and push for brilliant creative ideas – you have a sharp eye and can spot great work among many options
• Believe brand success = commercial impact first and foremost
• Have a natural passion for building and love getting your hands dirty
• A natural coach and mentor - someone people are excited to work for
• Have a sense of urgency – you want to “go, move, make things happen, and shake things up!”
• Thoughtful and detail-oriented; a misplaced comma drives you crazy
• Are deeply inspired by and passionate about Rent the Runway’s mission and goals
Qualifications:
• 8+ years experience working either in-house or at an agency (preference for those who have worked on consumer brands with female target). Welcome former Creative Directors, Editors, Strategists, Brand Marketers, and more...
• Demonstrated success creating effective marketing and creative campaigns
• Excellent writing talent, specifically brand voice and consumer marketing
• Dialed in to what’s cool, new and relevant and how to translate that for brands
• Proven track record directly and indirectly managing teams of copywriters and creatives
• Excellent communication skills, with ability to turn complex ideas into clear narratives
• Experience working closely and fostering collaborative relationships with cross-functional partners, especially business owners and creative partners
• Analytical ability to process and make decisions based on data and quantitative goals
• Able to thrive in fast-paced environments, adapt quickly, and be highly flexible
