Title: Analyst Shopper Insights and Category Strategy Travel Retail Worldwide
Reports to: Sr. Analyst Shopper Insights and Category Strategy Travel Retail Worldwide
Summary
The role of Shopper Insights and Category Strategy analyst is to support the Travel Retail World Wide business with solid numerical data to support all ongoing projects and initiatives. This role reports into the Shopper Insights and Category Strategy Senior Analyst.
Typically, the successful candidate would cover the quantitative side of the SICS team’s numerous work programs, which would typically be grouped across passenger dynamics, beauty and retail trends, and travelling consumer behaviour. Some essential responsibilities would include the provision of regular reporting on the movements of passengers of key nationalities for our business, dedicating particular focus to the Americas region; conducting analysis of category dynamics within Travel Retail; monitoring market share within TR for ELC compared to competitors; working with retail sales and SKU level data to provide evidence for gaps and opportunities, and conducting deep dives on the beauty behaviour of key nationalities, from a quantitative perspective. Although the role is largely quantitative, an appreciation of, and ability to work in synergy with qualitative insight would be required.
This role will also liaise closely with counterparts in both our European and APAC regional offices and there will be opportunities to collaborate with these counterparts to identify data sharing and data consolidation initiatives.
Responsibilities:
• To support the work of the Senior Analyst with robust quantitative data on an ad hoc basis.
• Working closely with the senior analyst, develop a deep familiarity with the strategic aims of the business and its insight priorities and identify data and sources which can support our understanding of these.
• To build a repository of all relevant quantitative data sources for our business priorities, assessing sources for gaps, limitations and bias.
• To curate regular reports from these multiple sources to support our deeper understanding of these areas and to ensure these reports are shared in a timely and accessible manner, enabling all colleagues to make use of them, no matter their subject matter expertise.
• To work with qualitative insights shared by the Senior Analyst and spot opportunities for validation via quantitative data, also locating/gathering the data if existing sources don’t provide for this.
• Become an expert on the dynamics of the beauty subcategories on a global level: identify granular growth opportunities, and recommendations on areas of decline, provide evidence of these to the senior analyst.
• Become the point of contact on the performance of our ELC brands across the key beauty sub-categories globally, and understand our performance vis a vis competitors. Spot areas of under penetration for ELC and provide recommendations for growth.
• Build a strong working relationship with the business managers and other TR finance professionals, to find ways finance data can be used to enhance insight data.
• Collaborate on global projects with the SICS analysts in the Europe and APAC regions.
Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s degree
• 3+ year’s relevant experience
• Data driven, quantitative, deep comfort with numbers, datasets, pivots and ideally some statistical modelling is required
• Comfortable with providing solid recommendations and actions for the business emanating from the data
• A solid interest in and understanding of the Travel Retail channel, the beauty business and international travel would be highly preferred.
• Creativity and an interest in more visual ways of sharing numerical data would also be preferred.
