We are currently seeking Sr. R&D Chemists to join our Global Operations team in our San Francisco Headquarters. The primary function of this position is to work closely with the Manager or Sr. Manager of Research and Development and the Product Innovation team to direct all formula development from concept to an approved scaled up formula.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
• Track all R&D/Innovation projects at outside labs ensuring that all labs are working in the right priority order to meet R&D milestone.
• Pre-Screen all submissions from outside labs and analyze conformance to standards.
• Work with Manager/ Senior Manager of R&D to evaluate submissions with Marketing and communicate redirect feedback to the labs.
• Set up project calls with outside labs to “Kickoff” new projects.
• Responsible for updating web based project management planning system for R&D team.
• Manage all R&D timelines for assigned projects.
• Work with Validation Specialist to coordinate samples for required testing: HRIPT, Micro, SPF testing.
• Travel (With Manager/ Senior Manager of R&D) to outside labs for formula and shade development as needed to achieve on-time completion of formula development milestones.
• Occasional travel with PE for pilot to ensure proper batch scale up.
• Coordinate with outside labs to receive pre-pilot batches on approved batches and track stability.
• Responsible for transferring R&D Master to PE after Phase 1 validation is complete.
• All other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
• Minimum of 4 - 6 years of R&D/chemist experience in the cosmetics industry required.
• Bachelor of Science in chemistry/related field or equivalent experience plus Associate degree
• Knowledge of cosmetics formulation/raw materials is required.
• Experience formulating cosmetic formulations including color matching required.
• Ability to travel (domestic and international) as needed, up to 12 trips per year.
• Must be easily adaptable to priority changes and able to work on numerous projects simultaneously to meet established timelines.
