The Senior Manager, Brow Innovation will be in charge of leading the Brow product marketing team, in partnership with the EVP and VP of Global Product Marketing and the supporting cross functional teams. Being a large business for Benefit, this person will contribute to developing and driving new launches solely in the Brow Category.
The Senior Manager, Brow Innovation will oversee and drive the concept-to-launch process for all new brow launches. They will ensure that the development process is adhered to through impeccable communication, paperwork flow and tracking of all communication in innovation/ideation, design and developments stages of the critical path process. They will support the creative process for product development by bringing new product/formula ideas, new packaging ideas and shade suggestions to ensure Benefit has the most expansive and dominant brow products on the market. This person will also be responsible for keeping an eye on future trends in brow including formula, packaging and shade. Candidate must have a passion and love for cosmetics, and have development experience within color cosmetics.
Critically, in addition to the above, this person will be responsible for developing and growing the Brow Team, currently consisting of the Assoc. Mgr and Sr. Coordinator of Brows.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Primary Responsibilities:
Oversee the daily work and functions of the Brow Team and drive new product development. Assist EVP and VP with development of the new product launch calendar and general brow launch strategy. Ensure brow launches are meeting critical paths and milestones. Closely collaborate with cross functionals on all new developments. Contribute to new product development and packaging ideas, ensuring point of difference for hero products, specific channel/country needs and that products that create a customer need or fill a need:
• Drive the concept-to-launch process for the Brow Team, ensuring critical milestones are met and processes are adhered to
• Act as a lead cross functional communicator on all Brow Projects, ensuring all teams are aligned and fully clear on objectives and briefs
• Collaborate with suppliers and R & D team on redirects, and suggestions for next round submissions
• Drive & contribute ideas on products for packaging, formula and shades for all product segments
• Lead on-site lab work independently with R&D to direct shade/texture development when required
• Work closely with R & D and packaging to ensure formula/packaging integration milestones are met.
• Ensure team is prepped and has content fully prepared for all senior leadership and cross functional brow meetings
• Manage brow team ensuring collaborative team spirit and environment and the development and empowerment of the Brow Team
Innovative New Products:
Contribute ideas and help develop new innovative products through close collaboration with EVP of Product Marketing, VP of Product Marketing and close partnership with VP of R&D, VP of R&D Global Packaging and the Director of Planning. This includes:
• Research, develop and recommend new shades, formulas and ingredients based on trends/ideas and competitive activity
• Seek out external inspiration in mass and prestige beauty industry, fashion and lifestyle venues
• Liaison with R&D Teams on supplier interaction for innovative products in formula or packaging in innovation/ideation stage
• Drive consumer feedback and ideas in methods that support Benefit brand DNA
• Provide a strong storytelling with an unique product positioning for new product launches
Other Responsibilities:
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams (Innovation, Copy, Art, Package, R&D, Promotion and Regulations) for: How to Use, Claims, Ingredient call-outs, etc.
• Manage and drive approval process for all submissions to ensure that adjustments/feedback communicated is clear & understood; convey to suppliers when necessary
• Collaborate with Product Innovation team to create and R&D and Component Direction Forms for the following areas in for all new products:
◦ MP’s for, Formula and Shade Description and Shade Ranking Recommendations,
◦ R&D forms for How to Use, Claims and Ingredient Call Outs
◦ Component Direction Forms for color, size, finish, etc.
• Collaborate with Product Innovation team to recommend shade phase-outs based on new products in development
• Product research including competitive pricing/shopping/sku count, etc.
• Competitive awareness of cosmetics market (formula, ingredients, packaging, color trends)
• Work closely and collaboratively with creative product team to ensure synergistic and collaborative process
• Other job related duties may be assigned as necessary
Qualifications:
• Minimum 7 years’ experience working in developing color cosmetics for global cosmetic company
• Prior experience working in and with cosmetics labs to develop products, specifically texture and shade development in the color cosmetics category
• Must have developed highly integrated products (innovative formula coupled with complex packaging)
• Must have managerial experience and leadership skills
• Detail oriented; Strong communication skills
• Team player
• Strong story teller
• Ability to travel internationally and domestically
• College degree or equivalent experience
• Proficient in PowerPoint, MS Word, Excel, Outlook
