Description:
The Art Director is a core member of Global Brand Environments + Experiences and will report directly to the Creative Director. This individual must be able to establish the strategic, creative, and technical implementation of the Under Armour brand in retail environments and corresponding initiatives including campaign development and point-of-purchase. This role requires a strong understanding of the consumer journey, retail storytelling, and brand design systems - as well as expertise in brand identity, typography, art & photo direction, and contemporary design trends. In addition, this individual will collaborate and lead design initiatives with larger cross-disciplinary teams that include: Brand Category Creative, Retail Marketing,Digital Creative, Global Visual Merchandising teams,writers,environment designers and outside agency partners and vendors.

• Visualize and communicate a clear design methodology for retail environments including, but not limited to: consumer research, information design, digital development, experiential displays and engagement, in-store product marketing, concept development, mood/color palettes, etc.
• Openness to rapid iteration and short-term problem solving as well as long-term
vision development
• Ability to multi-task and utilize resources as needed (designers, production partners and agencies) to execute tasks within a deadline oriented environment
• Patience, empathy and commitment in assisting with the supervision of junior design staff on creative design initiatives
• Foster productive relationships with cross-functional team members in creative, marketing, retail, visual merchandising and store development
Responsibilities:
• Work collaboratively with the Creative Director, external resources, category & brand design leads to produce world-class retail consumer creative and experiences that elevate Under Armour’s brand across the global
• Work collaboratively to concept, create, design and develop the full retail experience and localization moments for all global new store openings for UA Brand House, UA Factory House and branded environments
• Earn the trust of teammates and leadership – Lead design initiatives as a collaborative effort with team designers, production artists and account managers to develop, communicate and execute a consumer story from the beginning concept phase to final completion with the release of air-tight creative assets/deliverables
• Elevate design to create original storytelling through use of 2D & 3D design for consumer facing brand experiences that are in line with global brand guidelines and retail marketing standards
• Lead design efforts within a category or product segment to create original concepts and executions that are impactful and industry leading
• Communicate and present design concepts to internal and external audiences, design leadership and retail account leads
• Be accountable for creative decisions – Review designs from teammates and third party vendors to ensure that final assets meet established design standards and are ready for consumer facing execution
• Be looked to by teammates as the resident expert on current and future trends, color, typography, photography, and environmental design and activations for the consumer experience
• Find, retain, lead and grow junior design staff through conceptual brainstorming, ideation, design and creative development
• Demonstrate an ability to understand account-management requirements, including strategy, client interaction, resource allocation and timing of project deliverables etc.
Your background qualifications must include:
• Bachelor’s Degree in graphic design or equivalent
• Minimum of 8 years graphic design experience in one of the following settings: retail / corporate / agency / design firm
• Proficient professional knowledge of brand architecture, retail, experiential and guideline development
• Professional knowledge of visual merchandising, space planning, interior design and architecture is strongly preferred
• Experience providing art direction (graphics, photo shoots, etc.)
• Demonstrate the ability to analyze problems, anticipate consequences and eliminate obstacles to successfully complete projects.
• Ability to be versatile and handle multiple projects and reprioritizations
• Exceptional verbal, written and presentation skills
• Expert command of Adobe Creative Suite (Illustrator, Photoshop and InDesign). Working knowledge of 3D digital applications is a plus, but not mandatory.
• Ability to build files and specifications necessary for production
