Position Summary:
The Compliance Staff Accountant is responsible for preparing Sales and Use tax returns, keeping up to date on sales tax changes that impact the business, and maintaining sales tax systems. A progressive thinker, with emphasis on attention to detail, accuracy and timeliness. Company Interfaces:
Reports directly to the Treasury Accounting Manager. Internally, the position will interface with multiple levels, primary contacts will include Accounts Payable, Retail Accounting, IT and Retail Admin. Externally, the position will interface with Various Tax authorities.
Key Performance Measurements:
• Prepare Sales and Use tax returns accurately and respond to tax inquires in a timely manner to minimize adverse relationships with tax authorities
• Assist in Tax Audits and Compliance requests
• Assist with yearly Financial and Banking Audits
General Responsibilities:
• Prepare and file tax returns via certified mail or Internet (Web file.).
• Special Projects related to Compliance
• Maintain prepaid business taxes and amortize as required.
• Supply Orvis resale certificates for vendors
• Verify and key tax exemption information for customers who qualify.
• Maintain and review GL accrual accounts associated with Compliance area.
• Serve as backup for tax file upload to Taxware
• Prepare monthly journal entries and review management reports for related responsibilities.
• Prepare year end audit work papers for related accounts.
• Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications Required:
• 4 year degree in Accounting or related field. Equivalent experience will be considered.
• Experience with Multi-state tax return preparation required.
• Ability to make quick, accurate decisions on a regular basis.
• Oracle and TaxWare experience preferred.
• Familiarity with web-based applications.
• Must be able to multi-task and work well under the pressure of deadlines.
• Knowledge of Microsoft Office products, specifically Excel, Access and Word required.
• Ability to maintain positive working relationships with both internal and external contacts.
