Primary Purpose
The Visual Display Director is responsible for achieving an elevated visual merchandising presentation that results in a more captivating in-store experience and improves sales results. This role drives results by developing and executing short term action plans and long term strategies. The Visual Display Director partners with and supports the broader Sales Leadership Team and field visual organization on visual merchandising presentation, brand guide planning and execution, merchandising sell down strategies, visual training/capability-building, and overall strategies to optimize the use of real estate to drive profitable sales growth and build brand equity. Additionally, VD Director will work collaboratively with key vendor partners executing visual displays that deliver on key supplier marketing objectives. Lastly, the visual display director will work with our third party CAD design product to help build 3D modeling environments for our destination retail stores.
Duties and Responsibilities
The scope of this position will vary depending on the size of the retail operation and the level of the visual display director you presently hold. In general, the key responsibilities as a visual marketing manager will include creating compelling visual displays, basic merchandising training and skills development to our field locations and creating 3D modeling of our flagship stores.
Visual Display:
As the successful candidate, you will be designing visual displays yourself, or executing the design decisions of others. In either case, this position will be responsible for creating and maintaining a compelling presentation of merchandise that will engage customers and help stimulate sales activity. You will be the store's brand gatekeeper, ensuring that the image and style of the company is projected at all times. As you execute visual presentation changes, you will be moving merchandise, shelving, and fixtures. You will also be changing signs, and maintaining the cleanliness and functionality of fixtures, signage, lights, and equipment.
Merchandising Training:
As the chief point of contact for new merchandising initiatives, the successful candidate will generally be responsible for communicating key information that is vital to the success of the initiative. Mentoring and training our field property managers about design concepts, visual display standards, and the proper maintenance of the overall visual display effort will be critical. The successful candidate will motivate other members of the store to actively support your visual merchandising efforts.
Qualifications for Visual Display Directors:
The position will require a self-reliant, self-motivated, attitude with the ability to achieve goals and meet deadlines without supervision. In larger stores the position will require the successful candidate to work collaboratively with third party vendors to execute their campaigns, so the ability to follow both written and verbal instruction with great attention to detail is essential. Effective communication and leadership skills, and the ability to demonstrate the highest level of professionalism and be a role model for outstanding customer service at all times.
Education and Experience Requirements
• Must have a 4 year Bachelor’s Degree in a similar or related field
• Visual Display Director is expected to have excellent organizational skills, as well as planning, project management, and time management expertise. You will need to possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills, as well as a strong creative flair and effective problem solving abilities. Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite Programs, Power Point and Illustrator will be an asset.
• Visual display work often occurs at times when it is the least disruptive to the sales floor and the customer experience. Flexible work hours and the ability to work early morning and late night hours, as well as weekends and holidays are required. Ability to travel on a regular basis is required.
• 4. Must be in possession of a valid US Passport and be able to travel internationally if needed.
Physical Requirements
Because you will be responsible for creating and changing visual displays, you will need to be able to push, lift, and carry 30-50 pounds of merchandise and fixtures. The visual display director position is physically demanding, and you can expect to be on your feet and walking for eight or more hours per day.
