Senior Designer, Donna Karan Handbags
Overview
GIII Apparel Group, the world's premier designer and manufacturer of quality leather outerwear, dresses, women's suits, sportswear and accessories, is currently seeking a Senior Designer to join its team within it's Donna Karan New York Handbag division!
Reporting directly into the Vice President of Design, the Senior Designer will create and design a competitive fashion handbag and small leathergoods product line that strikes a balance between relevant commercial product and brand right emotional fashion that will collectively grow the business according to the Donna Karan brand strategic and financial objectives.
Responsibilities
• Merchandises a fully balanced line building from conceptual research, sketches to final approved prototypes
• Pulls swipes, identifies inspiration styles and trends to illustrate line development
• Sketches technical handbag and SLG drawings including hardware and bag interior based on the Line Plan for each market
• Shops for seasonal inspirational each season
• Contributes to color palette and materials development for each collection
• Communicates daily with overseas offices regarding the status of the product development and approvals
• Monitors sales trends by working closely with sales and merchandising teams
• Creates tech packs for branded hardware/embellishment layouts and constructions
• Communicates with sourcing and production teams to ensure costing goals are achieved
• Serves as brand and Company ambassador with overseas factories and vendors
Qualifications
Professional Knowledge, Qualifications & Experience:
• 5 to 7 years of experience with proven commercial success in women's contemporary handbag design, required
• Expert understanding of development process with technical skill proficiency using Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop, required
• Demonstrated ability to sketch technical handbag drawings with knowledge of varied constructions spanning ALL categories
• Critical ability to executive technical design packages with translation of all details for factory execution including corrections
• Collaborate with Product Development team for critical review and approval of pre-production and top of production samples
• Strong fashion sense and the critical ability to identify and interpret trends and translate runway aesthetic to commercial success
• Keen attention to detail, strong organizational skills and ability to take independent action to achieve objectives
• Calendar savvy with proven ability to manage competing priorities, stakeholder agendas and relationships to meet milestones
• Manage confirmation sample approval process to meet 2-week post market time and action standard
• Confident, capable, highly effective cross-functional written/verbal communication, teaming and interpersonal skills
• Proven ability to train, develop, manage, retain and attract high-performing talent and to lead individuals and teams by example
• Experienced, independent China-specific global traveler with flexibility to travel as business demands
Educational Background
• Bachelor's or technical degree in Design, preferred or equivalent work experience
