Role Summary:
Reporting to the Director, Global Logistics, the Customs Compliance Coordinator will be responsible for ensuring compliance with all Canadian and U.S. import regulations and audit classifications, valuations and documentation when needed. The incumbent’s success relies on timely clearance of goods through Canadian and U.S. customs.
The Customs Compliance Coordinator acts as a business partner and possesses an in-depth working knowledge in several areas of international business trade, and fully understands the importance of meticulous documentation, ensuring complete and accurate details in all areas.
Main Responsibilities:
• Ensure compliance with U.S. import regulations with regard to classification, valuation, origin rules, free trade agreements, documentation, and record-keeping;
• Assign HTS tariff classification;
• Assist in maintaining data for Groupe Dynamite’s duty drawback program;
• Manage HTS number assignment in the P.O. system;
• Responsible for monitoring and resolving daily import compliance issues;
• Resolve product description and value issues with Sourcing and Product Management teams;
• Manage flow of imported vessel shipments as it relates to customs compliance;
• Ensure that all documents are on hand for customs clearance;
• Process customs clearance with customs broker, validated B3 info upon receipt of the brokerage invoice;
• Follow up with vendors for missing documentation;
• Prepare files for assigned accounts to ensure that all required documents are accurate and present for compliance;
• Provide support to the team with any Canadian customs issues when required;
• Assist in the export process for our licensing partners;
• Assist with training of new hires and/or train current staff on new processes;
• Manage return to vendor.
Secondary Responsibilities:
• Assist outbound logistics with courier waybill creation for our business partners;
• Assist Senior Customs Coordinator or lead optimization initiative.
Qualifications and Competencies:
• DEC or AEC in Finance/Business Administration;
• 2-3 years of previous customs brokerage, import/export business, expediting functions and materials transportation administration required;
• Completion of Canadian Society of Customs Brokers Certificate, Canadian Society of Customs Brokers Qualification Certificate or Certified Customs Specialist is an asset;
• Excellent computer skills in Microsoft Windows;
• Proficient knowledge of world geography and import documentation;
• Knowledge of Oracle RMS & Manhattan Scale is an asset;
• Bilingual.
