Brooks Brothers and a variety of well-respected brands. The flagship factory, known as "Southwick" is located in Haverhill, Massachusetts and has been an institution in the Merrimack Valley since its founding in 1929.
Today, Southwick operates out of a new state-of-the art facility located in Haverhill, MA, manufacturing and tailoring suits.
The diveristy of our operations has created an opportunity for a full time Director of Finance to join the accounting team at our Southwick location. Someone who is committed to helping drive our business with a passion for the apparel and/or manufacturing industry.
The Director of Finance and Accounting plans, organizes, develops and controls the financial and administrative support operation of three manufacturing facilities, including safeguarding of assets, accounting activities, budgeting functions, financial analysis, long-range planning and strategy, credit and cash management, internal auditing and purchasing.
Duties & Responsibilities:
• Develops objectives for the Company’s financial and administrative support operations in conformance with overall Company direction; designs strategies to reach desired goals expressed in terms of comprehensive short and long-range goals.
• Organizes assigned functions to achieve stated objectives; periodically reviews these functions in terms of their effectiveness and makes recommendations, as appropriate.
• Directs the accounting function, including ensuring the preparation, review and presentation of financial reports monthly and yearly.
• Participates in the preparation of and reviews the annual financial budget; analyzes operating results as compared to budgets and presents same, as directed.
• Provides long-range planning input and analysis including the preparation of analyses for development strategies.
• Manages the cash flow of the Company, including coordination with corporate finance.
• Ensures credit activities are carried out for the Company, including the maintenance of relevant records, the extension of credit and the collection of outstanding accounts.
• Ensures appropriate auditing through the use of external firms.
• Reviews and analyzes inventory valuations and controls, including monitoring the bi-annual physical inventories for the Company.
• Works with the legal department to optimize tax planning and prepare contracts for major purposes.
• Ensures compliance with tax reporting requirements including preparation of the year-end package.
• Selects and develops employees to staff assigned functions; evaluates subordinates’ performance; and recommends compensation changes to ensure the attraction, retention and motivation of qualified staff.
• Keeps abreast of the latest developments in the garment industry and reading newly enacted legislation for which this position is responsible through reading and attendance of seminars and conferences.
Skills/Requirements
Qualifications:
• MBA; preferably in accounting or finance.
• Ten (10) years in cost and general accounting in a manufacturing environment.
• Five (5) years of experience managing an Accounting and Finance Team.
• Knowledge of management information systems used for finance and accounting applications.
• Travel to meet with Executive Vice President, Chief Financial Officer required every other week.
Software Skills:
• Advanced Microsoft Office Suite skills.
• Working knowledge of ERP/GL software (i.e., QuickBooks, Oracle, etc).
• Software for managing fixed assets.
Skills/Aptitudes:
• Strong administrative, analytical, organizational, problem solving and oral and written communication skills; and an aptitude for directing and motivating people are required.
• Attention to detail very important.
• Ability to deal with people at all organizational levels and work within a team environment.
• Strong sense of urgency to drive the business forward.
