SUMMARY:
Working closely with the Planning team creating balanced, commercial and innovative product ranges in-line with channel requirements. Delivering departmental strategies, identifying risks and opportunities in order to drive market share whilst supporting the brand image and company objectives.
PRIMARY ACCOUNTABILITIES:
• Responsible together with the Planner for the implementation and execution of departmental strategies and financial plans inline with set targets and objectives
• Building and maintaining a targeted brand offer, with a strong focus on anticipating and meeting the needs of the VANS customer. Creating exciting product ranges, considering multiple key attributes for range optimisation and high customer experience for all channels
• Collaborative, organised, and strategic with your finger on the pulse of fashion always looking to push the department forward
• Managing and flexing OTB to hit the set targets whilst remaining opportunistic and driving the best possible return for the OTB
• Providing the commercial and creative input for your dept. to allow optimum decision making around future trade, assortment planning and wider strategic brand decisions
• Critical Path management- adhering to set deadlines at all times, including timely feed in of commercial information, cross functionally and the monitoring of deliveries
• Partners with planning to analyse In-season departmental performance preparing Sales plans / Forecasts for the season and providing analysis of daily / weekly sales to drive out sound commercial trading actions for profit maximisation.
• Providing insight on best selling items/categories and slow selling/down-trending categories to maximise sales and reduce inventory liabilities / markdown
• Keeping up to date with competitor activity and constantly reviewing the product strategy, you will understand the market place, target customer and key competitors using consumer insights to ensure VANS remains ahead at all times
• Works with marketing on visual merchandising strategies and guidelines, store layouts, windows and promotional initiatives
• Driving the departmental promotional plan for the season
• Responsible for arranging and presenting to various audiences for conferences and other key meetings as required
QUALIFICATIONS:
• Education: Bachelor Degree.
• Experience: Minimum 2 years experience in retail buying
• Knowledge of all product categories is advantageous
• Awareness of current and future trends, knowledge of brands appropriate to target market and understanding of what is happening in retail landscape.
• Language skills: English
• Analytical Skills: Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office products, above all Excel.
Strong business and financial analysis skills as well as retail math knowledge, including elements of mark up, margin, open to buy, GMROI
Develops and maintains the technical and digital skills required for own role
• Others: Willing to travel 30% of the time.
