Designer II - Womens CrossFit Training Apparel
The Women’s Designer II for CrossFit Training Apparel is responsible for researching trends, ideation of new concepts and creating compelling garments to meet the brand aesthetic. The Apparel Designer II reports into the Line Manager and works with the apparel team to ensure that each garment meets the categories product brief and the seasonal design direction set by the Creative Director and Senior Management team.
Key Accountabilities:
• Design compelling CrossFit apparel that takes into account cost, style, fit, fabric, trims, construction and technology.
• Create technical drawings and representations of fabric, trim, graphic artwork, and products to ensure construction information are interpreted exactly as intended.
• Provide design/concept boards to communicate seasonal direction and stories to broader teams.
• Work with the broader category teams to understand market needs and design apparel to solve CrossFit athlete needs.
• Keep abreast of market trends/consumer needs and how they relate to the Reebok brand.
• Be involved with the CrossFit Community by attending events, meeting with coaches and talking to athletes to better understand the consumer.
• Identify new concepts, materials, manufacturing process, etc. to improve the overall process and positively impact the team.
• Select materials and trims used in product designs and assist Manager in creating material and trim “toolbox boards” to consolidate selections each season.
• Incorporate function and technology into product while still designing to cost.
• Create tech packs and other materials to hand off to development for sample manufacturing.
• Create/maintain all art files and transfer correct information to cross functional teams and other international design centers.
• Attend and contribute in fit, prototype and design review sessions.
• Meet all calendar deadlines and deliverables.
• Present seasonal concepts/lineart to senior management at major milestones.
• Mentor more junior designers.
Knowledge Skills and Abilities:
• Strong communication, organizational and presentation skills; ability to receive design critique and respond with multiple solutions
• Ability to illustrate designs as hand sketches and line art. Fashion illustration a plus
• Knowledge of garment construction, draping and fitting techniques preferable
• Strong team player as well as the ability to work independently
• Ability to respond quickly to multiple projects with strong time management skills
• Ability to work within a cross functional team of Marketing, Product Development and other Design teams for maximum productivity
• A willingness to learn about CrossFit and the broader CrossFit Community
Qualifications:
1. 5+ years of apparel design experience
2. Advanced level in Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop a plus
3. Knowledge of garment construction, garment fit and costing
4. Bachelor’s degree in fashion or apparel design
In the fall of 2017, the Reebok brand is moving its headquarters to a 220,000 square-foot section of the Innovation and Design Building in Boston’s Seaport District. The move will bring community fitness to a next generation design and innovation space; the all new workplace will foster a vibrant collaborative culture and will allow the brand to be closely connected to the community in Boston. Alongside state-of-the-art office spaces, the headquarters will be equipped with an extensive employee fitness center and a public retail store.
