What You’ll Be Doing:
You’ll work on developing a seasonal line plan that represents ModCloth and aligns with the brand’s merchandising strategy. That means developing great relationships with other team members and vendors while simultaneously initiating ideas and solutions that make our buying procedures astoundingly efficient. You’ll also show purchased product who’s boss by monitoring its comings and goings with eagle eyes and intelligent analysis.
Responsibilities
• Track and provide in-season sales information and reports to buying team to help identify new opportunities to increase sales, improve margins, maximize inventories, and decrease markdowns
• Partner with Buyer to create pricing architecture for assortment to leverage sales and margin
• Gain a thorough understanding of the ModCloth target customer by tracking and experiencing customer attitude and lifestyle, and help select product that appeals to customer taste
• Provide excellent support and assistance to cross-functional teams and processes
• Be a customer representative by reporting quality, fit, and construction issues to internal teams and external vendors to better inform assortment decisions. Build strong vendor relationships to ensure we continue to receive the best possible product and quality at compelling prices
• Stay laser focused on market trends and be responsible for providing in-depth recaps about category trends to Buyer to better inform future assortment strategies
• Collaborate closely with Buyer to understand our competition through patterning activities that require shopping and conducting regular scans of benchmark competitors to accurately identify opportunities and challenges for in-season business and future season line planning
• Follow up on all outstanding receipts to confirm on-time delivery and to make adjustments as needed in Oracle
• Participate in strategy and line review meetings to understand seasonal business strategies and specific product initiatives
• Manage product attributes and season codes in order to facilitate necessary reporting to identify new opportunities to grow the business
• Offer input to product assortment strategy
Requirements
• At least 1+ years of buying and/or purchasing experience
• Must possess strong analytical skills including understanding of all aspects of retail math and aspects of business that affect gross margin
• Acute understanding of the ModCloth brand and our customer
• An ability to innovate change through visionary thinking and strategic management
• Stellar organizational skills and an ability to multitask, prioritize, and meet deadlines
• Strong communication, presentation, negotiation, and influencing skills
• Strong fashion sense with a special talent to envision and interpret fashion trends
• Wonderful relationship management skills and an ability to manage conflict and present thoughtful solutions to potential issues
• Working knowledge of Excel and Google doc systems and tools
• Demonstrated initiative and a positive can-do attitude
