Television Production Program Overview
The Production Technician Internship program is designed to provide an overview of the Production Technician roles, and its function within the HSN live broadcast. Through this Internship, you'll gain experience by working with Production Technicians as they support 5 modalities during the live broadcast. The Production Technician Internship provides you with a unique opportunity to be part of a live, 24/7, studio environment. It also provides you with an overview of all 5 modalities and then the ability to focus on a selective modality in gaining hands on experience learning any of the following audio, stage managing, camera operations, assistant directing and graphics.
A Day in the Life
• Achieve HSN’s internship program global objectives
◦ Understand the company’s mission and strategy and develop an understanding of how the global plan helps define business unit strategy and goals.
◦ Develop an understanding of divisional organizational structure and the cross-functional relationships that the business unit has with other parts of the business.
◦ Gain practical industry experience in a profession that aligns to desired career path.
• Overview of the Internship Opportunity
◦ Learn about all aspects of TV Production and how it relates to electronic retailing.
◦ Gain exposure to different positions within the TV production department by shadowing and working the positions for live show and offline shoots.
◦ Learn about each position related to live television production.
◦ Attain knowledge of the live show that is not taught in class.
◦ Gain first-hand experience in each position to the point where the student knows what to expect when going out into the real world.
◦ Get “behind the scenes” exposure to studio production in a live, 24/7 environment.
◦ Shadowing each position of live show production: Stage Manager, Audio, Graphics, Robotic Jib Cameras, and Assistant Director.
◦ Participating in off-line production projects to gain practical subject matter knowledge.
◦ Participating with Production Technicians in substantive assignments which will advance the intern’s knowledge of the field of television production.
Must Haves
◦ Working towards a Bachelors Degree in a related field
◦ Classes in Television Production and related subjects. Some experience outside of classes regarding live shows optional, but not required
◦ Punctuality and regular attendance
◦ Some knowledge of equipment used in a control room
◦ Juniors and seniors preferred
◦ In order to participate in our TV Internship program, you must be earning college credit
◦ Must be able to participate in a minimum of 2-3 days per week
◦ 8 to 12 weeks at minimum, depending upon length of semester
◦ Creative students with a positive attitude, willing to develop new skills.
◦ Motivated students who thrive in a fast-paced environment.
◦ TV Production majors seeking experience in a live show atmosphere to gain substantive practical knowledge.
◦ Students who exhibit professionalism in communication and personal presentation.
Candidates will be considered in totality of their skills and experience versus strict interpretation of “must haves”.
