Club Monaco: Designer, Soft Wovens
Club Monaco is an international brand that designs and creates modern yet timeless clothing and accessories for women and men. Overview
Responsibility for the design of soft woven pieces, including research, technical spec packages, presentations and all necessary follow-up. The designer is responsible for designing for four seasons, along with continual add ins.
Responsibilities
Research
• Develop initial concepts for line working closely with team
• Create inspiration boards for your area
• Research trends in line
• Research fabrics, trims, hardware pieces and other raw materials
• Select fabric/yarn for each individual style
• Develop color palettes by style and approve lab-dips
• Purchase inspirational samples for collection
Design
• Responsible for design and development of entire commodity
• Provide designs that reflect the trends, but also which reflect the integrity and aesthetics of the Club Monaco brand
• Prepare technical sketches and spec detailing for Production team, including front and back sketch and critical measurements, construction details
• Prepare Spec sheets with detailed technical information and trim sheets
• Maintain design boards with up to date sketches and fabrics
Development/Follow-up
• Work closely with the Production team throughout the development process to ensure the highest level of quality and integrity
• Collaborate with Merchants in development of line
• Review samples and provide Fit Comments to the Production team
• Attending fittings and communicate changes
• Review fit / construction in order to fit into necessary price points/partner with Tech team
• Review Merchandise Plans and maintain calendar timing
• Monitor sales and retail sell-through to determine successes and failures, and to build on this knowledge for future collections
• Work with CFT to identify and solve problems in your area
• Follow-through on all trim development for your area
• Manage a team of two Associate Designers and Assistant
Skills and Requirements
• At least 3+ years experience of design
• Computer proficiency in MS Office: Outlook, Excel, Word, WebPMD
• Excellent interpersonal skills supporting a team environment
• Excellent English communication skills - verbal and written
• Excellent time management/project skills
• Strong planning and organizational skills with a sense of priority for deadlines and attention to detail
• Ability to recognize and react to changing work demands
• Comfortable and confident in making effective autonomous (and group) decisions in a timely manner
• Goal orientated: ability to stay focused on creating winning results
• Strong illustration and flat sketching skills
• Technical knowledge of fabric construction, finishes and techniques
• Travel domestically and internationally
