Supervising and Associate Producer Program Overview
The goal of the internship program is to show how the Supervising and Associate Producers work with many different departments to pull together a television presentation. In bringing that vision to life, the intern will get exposure to various projects/shows/items and events and have the opportunity to aid in support tactics. In addition they will be able to interact with others departments to learn what they do and shadow the live show as well.
A Day in the Life
• Achieve HSN’s internship program global objectives
◦ Understand the company’s mission and strategy and develop an understanding of how the global plan helps define business unit strategy and goals.
◦ Develop an understanding of divisional organizational structure and the cross-functional relationships that the business unit has with other parts of the business.
◦ Gain practical industry experience in a profession that aligns to desired career path.
• Overview of the Internship Opportunity
◦ Learn project management and producing skills necessary to make for great on-air presentations/demonstrations, exciting events and stellar shows
◦ Learn how/when content/assets (like b-roll/graphics, etc.) are used and when and how to request that content
◦ Learn the logistics of what it takes to make a great show—everything from requesting sets and visual propping to aiding with guests needs prior to showtime
◦ Gain exposure to vendors, guests, merchandising team, producers, and live show personnel
◦ Gain exposure to learning how to write show notes for live show execution
◦ Participate with the Supervising and/or Associate Producers with day-to -day project management responsibilities and requests which will advance the intern’s knowledge of the field of television producing.
◦ Participate with live show execution/communication, learn to submit requests for assets and on-air content.
◦ Participate in communicating with Producers, live show and other support teams to gain practical knowledge.
◦ Attend content and asset meetings, as needed to learn the collaboration that is involved.
Keys to Success
Must Haves
◦ Working towards a Bachelors Degree in a related field
◦ Classes in Producing and/or Production with an understanding of content (graphic or video)
◦ Detail-oriented and good at managing projects, timelines and deliverables
◦ Juniors and Seniors preferred
◦ In order to participate in our TV Internship program, you must be earning college credit
◦ Ideal candidate will be able to aid in an entire project - from start to finish. This is availability based, but that’s for ideal learning
◦ Must be able to participate in a minimum 20 hours per week, ideally 3 full days
◦ 8 to 12 weeks at minimum, depending upon length of semester
Nice to Haves
◦ Strong verbal and written communication skills
◦ Creative and analytical skills
◦ Some experience dealing with Customers or Guests
◦ Knowledge of HSN
