Primary purpose: Individual contributor responsible for the Technical Design process from development to production. Responsible for analyzing and evaluating garments with correct fit specifications and brand aesthetic and communicating these values to factories. Individual is critical cross functional partner to Design, Design Development, and Product Development teams.
Leverage their proficiency to: Create and update tech packs, including detailed technical sketches, graded measurements, and construction details for Women’s and Men’s Collections (and Soft Accessories) from development to production.
• Able to partner with Design and understand style construction and design intent.
• Provide input to Design on yarn, stitch, and gauge as it pertains to garment construction.
• Able to help “mock up” samples for presentations, runways, and lookbooks.
• Manage all aspects of fittings, technical issues, and product evaluations.
• Daily communication with overseas factories.
• Manage the adherence to time/action calendars.
• Communicate deviations from calendar, facilitate resolutions, and resolve issues.
• Research and develop quality/technical standards for Tech department.
• Confirm label and marketing placement instructions for conformance to standards.
• Establish strong working relationships with cross functional and global partners.
• Ability to influence and navigate through difficult situations.
• Work with local sample rooms and patternmakers.
• Ability to multitask and take on special projects.
• Create paper patterns when needed.
Accomplished individual will possess:
Bachelor’s degree in Fashion or equivalent industry experience preferred.
8-10 years’ experience in Sweaters technical design.
Must have:
• Experience in Sweater development, preferably at Collection or Advanced Contemporary level.
• Proficiency/understanding of hand and machine knitting.
• Organized and self motivated with strong sense of urgency.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Connections to factories (domestic and overseas) and local knitters a plus.
• Patternmaking.
• Understanding of product development and manufacturing process.
