External Job Description
The Associate Buyer supports the creation and execution of the merchandise strategy for a subset of the brand in the short term. Strategy is created by using the inputs of brand positioning, customer insights, competitive and market intelligence, and trend. Collaborates cross-functionally to bring product to market. Owns maximizing business and minimizing risk in season.
Key Responsibilities include:
Business Management:
• Analyzes weekly, monthly and quarterly reporting for merchant and planning teams.
• Manages product ranking process.
• Presents insights and recommendations by combining data analysis and customer insights from in store work, online and social media.
• Follows merchant/business recommendations swiftly and with sense of ownership
• Manages development process including ensuring product development process supports on time delivery. Identifies challenges and partners with cross functional partners to address, or elevates to leadership in timely manner.
• Works cross functionally with planning, product development, and design to ensure the on time and accurate delivery (WIP, CFT, etc) of all products.
Business Operations:
• Responsible for ensuring data integrity including reconciling On Order report, preparing POs, and updating information in the system and with cross-functional partners throughout the process.
• Responsible for receipt management. Identifies delivery risks / changes and presents solutions and plans to mitigate risk.
Cross Functional Support of Product Execution:
• Partner with Visual on floor set placement of product to insure that all styles are represented and volume and fashion projection objectives are met.
• Support the development of educational and event tools for Store Operations.
• Partner with Merchandising Operations to ensure data integrity.
• Partner with Allocation on monthly floorset meetings.
Assortment Development:
• Partner with Merchant to develop core and seasonal product strategies that meet financial targets.
• Partner with Planning on Style and Choice Count needs for each season.
• Develop seasonal assortment that supports brand and product strategies.
• Rank product buys based on customer, market trend, concept and historical insights.
• Partner with Planning and Allocation on promotional cadence, flow order, color/size buys, minimum /maximum quantities, etc.
• Support Merchant in communicating seasonal product strategies at vertical meetings and reinforce strategy regularly with Cross Functional Teams.
• Build out assortment tools including Vendor Projections, CAP, Attribute Reporting, Choice Count Sheets, and eForm. Partner with Assistant on maintenance.
Competitive Intelligence:
• Patterns competitors and fashion leaders to understand how they are projecting their brand. Focuses on overall assortment, fashion offering, pricing/promotional cadence, and presentations. Reports on and uses findings/information in season and future line planning.
• Supports the merchant in developing a line that represents the brand through competitive intelligence and business analysis.
Customer Insights:
• Provide the voice of the customer.
• Research and anticipate what the customer wants next and why.
• Gather information from working with customers in stores, trend information and historical knowledge.
Requirements
Education:
• Bachelor’s degree in fashion merchandising, retail management or business related field preferred.
Experience:
• 3-5 years of experience in a merchandising related position for a fashion retailer.
Skills:
• Proficient in Word, Excel and Power Point, and Outlook. Microstrategy and FlexPLM preferred.
• Acute attention to detail
• Ability to multi-task and manage priorities
• Must have a sense of urgency and personal accountability
• Strong interpersonal skills and communication skills
