The ideal candidate will demonstrate expertise and knowledge in apparel sales and merchandising practices and procedures. Relies on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish departmental goals. Individual will partner closely with Sales, Marketing, 3rd Party Partners, and Retailer Sales and Management staff. This person will be responsible for supporting all Dutch brands in the NY Metro area.
Duties:
• Assure standards on the floor are met (executing proper size runs, merchandise is properly hung and maintained)
• Change the mannequins on a regular basis; work with visual teams to ensure brand image is consistently upheld
• Conduct major floor moves when monthly deliveries hit, as well as minor floor moves and “tweaks” each week to make certain deliveries look fresh, new, and exciting
• Monitor best and slow sellers every Monday as well as check stockroom levels each week for focus on pieces that may need an extra push. Also, touch base with specialists and co-ops early in the week in order to get feedback on sales and answer any of their questions
• Maintain relationships and open communication with all managers in weekly or daily touch basis. These relationships are key in order to assure business runs smoothly as challenges arise
• Build relationships associates in order for them to approach you with questions, call outs, and concerns. Try on the product when it hits to know how everything fits; also encourage the associates to try on product on so they as know as well
• Train stock specialist and associates on how items should be represented
• Ensure specialist and sales team have all necessary tools (i.e., recent press pertinent to the individual store, training manuals, PR Blasts and Selling Reports )
• You are expected to be in the product knowledge expert in regard to fabric, fit, sizing, styling, and seasonal offering
• Track where your stores are month-to-date and set attainable weekly and daily goals to help them achieve plans
• Conduct monthly seminars for all local and suburban doors
• Compile seasonal recap with pertinent and valid feedback from each store
• Upward and downward communication, pertinent feedback from the sales floor back to the wholesale team and vice versa in regard to the following: missed opportunities, product call outs , sizing requests and call outs and best and worst sellers
• Stay abreast of the current state of business for your accounts, encourage creative selling techniques, and focus on clientelling
• Competitive shopping: give feedback in regard to what is working for other vendors
• Communication is a key component to the position. It takes balance and tact to be able to speak to people of all levels, whether they are stock associates, sales associates, managers, or the vice president of the store. Everyone needs to be treated with the utmost respect
When Traveling:
• Book seminars before booking your trips
• Touch base and confirm seminars and visits with managers and specialists with the week before you travel
• Conduct seminars
• After seminar, spend as much time with the specialist manager and other sales associates in order to get pertinent feedback on regard to sizing, what works for their store and what does not, customer demographic, and missed opportunities for a seasonal recap. Merchandise the floor and walk the specialist through what you are doing, so they may learn from you
• Share fun facts: associates love to feel like they are on “the inside”
• Build positive relationships with visual and in stores. The more they like you, the more attention they pay to the brand
• Compile weekly selling – best sellers/worst sellers
Skills/Qualifications:
• 3-5 years of retail store sales and or management experience
• Ability to develop and maintain business relationships with Retailer staff
• Experience in developing and maintain store visuals
• Experience in leadership, training & development of retail staff
• Proven leadership and ability to drive sales teams
• Proficient with standard office and retail environment equipment (phones, cash registers, security/surveillance systems etc).
• Intermediate MS Office, Word, Excel, Outlook.
