Overview
We are seeking someone to join our casual sneaker culture that has a passion for buying and believes in the power of brand identity. Simply put our customers are fans, and we want our product to speak to them. The Associate Buyer is responsible for assisting the Buyer with the overall merchandising direction of a category or department(s) with the goal of meeting and when possible exceeding sales and margin targets. Providing trend setting buzz by incorporating competitive intelligence, customer insight, and business analysis is needed in order for you to deliver in this role. This position will assist the Buyer with purchases and the negotiation of merchandise with vendors. The Associate Buyer partners with the Merchandise Planners to develop strategies to maximize business opportunities. This position works closely with the planning, merchandising, marketing, and store optimization teams while focusing on our target demographic to provide compelling assortments.
Responsibilities
• Analyze market trends to establish a pattern of projected sales
• Work with merchandisers to review and analyze reports for opportunities and liabilities
• Work with Buyer to plan line, review studies and reports to build a product line for a given season
• Attend product shows and keep up-to-date on current and future trends
• Assist Buyer with preparing financial data for all budget and sales meetings
• Work closely with Buyer and Planner in order to ensure that buys are analyzed for maximum results
• Effectively partner with Buyer, Planning, and Merchandising teams in order to maximize results
• Manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines while remaining flexible to change priorities
• Effectively interface with Buyer and make recommendations
• Effectively assist Buyer with negotiating the best terms in order to maximize sales and profits
• Assist Buyer with developing a product selection to maximize sales, profit and gross margin
• Tracking product from vendor to delivery
Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree preferred in applicable field
• 2-4 year’s experience in retail merchandising is required
• Knowledge of retail buying process and product life cycles
• Demonstrates understanding of our product, customer and fashion trends
• Ability to communicate clearly with Buyer, peers and cross-functional teams
• Strong financial acumen and naturally analytical
• Software applications: Excel, Access, Word and PowerPoint
• Mainframe systems: BI, Purchase Order System, GMS
• Ability to be detailed and organized while prioritizing with tight deadlines
• Creative and strategic thinker
