About the Team
The Global Product Team at Harry’s Inc. – Harry's HQ and Harry’s Germany business – works cross-functionally to develop innovative, performance driven and competitive products in the men’s personal care and grooming market. The team is focused on advancing Harry’s to become a multi-channel and global brand.
About the Role
The Sr. Director of Global Product Development and Innovation will be part of the Global R&D Team and responsible for leading the development for Harry’s personal care and grooming portfolio to ensure product delivers on brand promise while creating exceptional customer experience, meeting intended aesthetics, performance, quality, cost, and regulatory objectives. The person in this role will define the team’s development philosophy, formulation and packaging innovation, R&D processes, and will be a key contributor to defining how the products deliver on the brand’s positioning. He/she will oversee all aspects of product development, including project management, formulation, and packaging. The role will be based at our New York HQ with some domestic and international travel expected.
You will:
Build Harry’s innovation and product development strategy, and execute key business priorities in alignment with Harry’s brand and global marketing teams.
Be a strong voice for R&D
• Advocate for product philosophy and strategy with cross functional partners, ensuring R&D perspective is incorporated in prioritizing company initiatives
• Work with all leaders in the brand to ensure alignment of strategic priorities
• Build strong working relationships across the brand, work closely with and communicate findings directly to senior leadership team
• Align cross-functionally with supply chain, marketing, quality, consumer communications, contract manufacturers and regulatory consultants on aspects of formula/product development
• Interface and drive communication between Harry’s product team and other internal and external departments
Create personal care and grooming development strategy
• Define development strategy, both operationally in terms of how the team executes as well as in how we formulate, develop packaging, and deliver on our brand positioning
• Navigate and understand the COGS, P & L and how they impact the business from a product and category level to the brand level
• Measure and communicate key success indicators (KSIs) for key business priorities, for self and development team
Build robust R&D organization
• Build amazing product development organization, capable of delivering new innovations that drive the industry forward
• Manage and develop the expertise of diverse teams; influence team structure and culture
Deliver insightful innovations
• Translate industry and grooming trends into viable product technology and concepts that complement the portfolio strategy to ensure a robust pipeline
• Maintain keen awareness of global skincare, haircare and industry trends to create ongoing pipeline of next level products
• Investigate and recommend new product development opportunities based on current research and trends
Improve processes and set standards
• Develop, recommend and implement best practices processes across the brand to improve effectiveness and ability to execute
• Strategically source and validate Third Party Manufacturers to create and commercialize concepts and confirming manufacturing capabilities
Qualifications
• 15+ years of product development experience in personal care and/or skincare
• Deep knowledge of formulation chemistry and ingredient functionality for topical skincare
• Outstanding oral and written communication, strong presentation skills, and the ability to set priorities and maintain organization as well as successfully drive others to complete priorities
• Willing to relocate to New York City
• MBA or equivalent working experience
• Must demonstrate strong strategic thinking, learning agility and ability to move strategic to granular analysis and approach as business needs require
• Track record of managing and building strong teams
• Proven ability to lead initiatives through implementation
• Ability to influence and persuade senior leaders across the organization
• Strong communication skills; ability to synthesize complex data to effectively communication recommendations
• Proven track record prioritizing activities while demonstrating agility and speed in order to change course when required and to lead other to follow suit
