Nordstrom’s Asset Management Platform (AMP) is seeking skilled software engineers to help build out our platform. The Asset Management Platform is responsible for the storage, centralization, and serving of all of Nordstrom’s digital assets (image, video, media). In other words, all multi-media experiences for Nordstrom customers start with us! We have one of the most important responsibilities in being able to sell merchandise on the web and mobile.
Think this is just about throwing stuff on an Amazon S3 bucket? Think again. While we are heavily AWS cloud based, leveraging everything from Elastic Beanstalk to Lambda in our microservices architecture, we are about unlocking enhanced experiences through the correlation of visual story telling and metadata, and serving it at scale. You will be assisting in the development of features and operational support of the platform – we are all “fullstack”, “devops” team.
You are an experienced engineer; coding languages are just a tool you use – your core skill set is problem solving; however, AMP is predominately Java, so you will be expected to be a java expert. You have familiarity with AWS and comfortable navigation the console, and cloud formation templates in defining our stacks. Ideally you have worked with big-data before and understand what it takes to have a p99.99 uptime.
Responsibilities
• Contribute to the development of new feature and system improvements in our Kanban team environment
• Distill ambiguous high-level problems into actionable stories and produce results
• Partake in operational support rotation to make sure our platform is serving the business
Basic Qualifications
• 5+ years overall development experience
• Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or equivalent experience
• Advanced coding skills in Java, preferably on Linux / Unix
• Experience in either the AWS or Google clouds
• Knowledge of data structures, RESTful services, and distributed systems
Preferred Qualifications
• Experience building scalable, reliable, secure, and cost-effective services in AWS
• Strong verbal and written communication skills
• Comfort and familiarity with the Spring MVC (no XML, all annotations!) and NoSQL
