Overview
Develops strategy, goals and savings targets for assigned categories in line with company strategy and procurement best-practices. Oversees all aspects of vendor contact. This includes price negotiations, communication of long and short term acquisition plans and future business development.
Responsibilities
Sourcing
• Develops strategy, goals and savings targets for assigned categories in line with company strategy and procurement best-practices.
• Works closely with Engineering and Marketing to develop should costing for new products and manages supplier selection.
• Liaises with divisions and functions to align with the division and function’s overall strategy and needs, ensuring procurement's ongoing value contribution.
• Leads global category management activities, including internal and external analysis and negotiations.
• Prepares business case for approval by head of direct/indirect procurement
• Ensures effective risk and compliance management with regards to category management
Business Acumen
• Demonstrates industry expertise and a comprehensive understanding of the overall sourcing process in order to provide effective strategies for manufacturing sourcing of goods and services.
• Collaborates with external and internal business partners such as finance, engineering, quality and operations teams, as well as other divisions as appropriate to achieve goals and objectives
• Measures departmental performance through cost/benefit analysis of action plans and their impact to the overall business.
• Manages contingency plans to attain established goals and maintain business operations.
• Drives change within sourcing to increase operational efficiency.
Sustainability and Compliance
• Ensures effective risk and compliance management, documented controls, testing and reporting on a timely basis.
• Supports, communicates and promotes Corporate Social Responsibility initiatives.
Project Management and Process Improvement Initiatives
• Identifies and leads initiatives to drive and implement change.
• Identifies opportunities to improve overall sourcing efficiency.
Leadership and Staff Development
• Actively participates in recruitment to identify talent to maintain appropriate levels of critical skillsets and high potential performers.
• Aligns departmental objectives with team development goals and performance expectations to maximize staff potential through participation in projects, assignments and the performance management process.
• Through networking and collaboration with business partners and colleagues, consistently maintains a professional posture for customer service and partnership within manufacturing organization.
• Through professional presence and behaviors, inspire trust and integrity. Influence staff members at all levels through coaching, teambuilding, skip level meetings, engagement, survey action planning and relationship building with business partners.
Safety
• Demonstrate safety leadership by adherence to workplace safety policies and procedures. Recognize and positively reinforce good safety behaviors while delivering immediate, specific and constructive feedback to employees who demonstrate unsafe work behavior.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications
• Bachelor's Degree or higher.
• 5 - 10 years’ experience sourcing or materials management (manager or above)
• Substantial experience in category management or strategic sourcing, pricing and contract negotiations; negotiation aptitude
• Effective MS Office knowledge and abilities using applications such as MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access
• Proficiency in MRP and ERP systems
• Strong verbal, written and interpersonal skills
• Ability to inspire and lead a high performing team with experience utilizing strategic talent management efforts for direct reports (manager level), staff and colleagues.
• Ability to develop and present business strategy to audiences utilizing current technology with strong professional presentation skills
• Management experience and demonstrated ability to positively motivate staff, foster and sustain a positive work climate.
• Ability to develop and implement new systems and processes to improve collaboration, transparency and speed throughout the sourcing process and supply chain.
• Ability to travel as needed by the business – approximately 10% of the time.
• Willingness to work flexible schedule to meet strategic timelines and deliverables.
Perferred Qualifications
• Category specific industry experience
• Masters / MBA or equivalent business background
• Professional qualification / certification from related professional body, (ISM – CPM / CPSM, APICS)
• Conversational communication skills in a second language
