As a Sr. Director of Digital Experience Design, you will create a vision for our global digital brand and marketing. You will collaborate across departments to drive consistent Design Principles tying together our eCommerce and mobile products and platforms in a way that is a chic, sophisticated, Jet Set, luxury, and seamless extension of the core retail experience.
Michael Kors is all about putting the customer at the center of the experience while providing style as a service. Experience Designers create holistic, human-centered experiences across Michael Kors web and native products. They collaborate with eCommerce, Retail, Creative, Innovation and IT teams to create empowering digital experiences for our Customers and Retail Associates.
As the Sr. Director of Experience Design at Michael Kors, you will be the ambassador for our customers and associates, representing them all the way from inception through implementation. Simply put, you will be designing experiences that always put people first. Within the first 90 days at Michael Kors, you will establish our guiding Design Principles in collaboration with stakeholders across the business, from all disciplines and perspectives to present to Senior Leadership for brand approval and alignment. Day to day, you will manage the team of designers to create, refine and elevate the digital Michael Kors experience for our customer. We will trust you and your team to be the champions of UX, and to maintain a clear understanding of goals throughout the lifecycle of a project.
You will contribute to strategic product thinking with product managers. You will partner with our eCommerce, Marketing, Innovation, Web Production, IT, and Analytics teams to understand user needs and market opportunities. Your team will create detailed interaction flows one day, conduct design briefings for special projects, Mobile Alpha & Beta programs, as well as eCommerce Production enhancements the next. Ultimately, you will support partners beyond the product teams with excellent design principles and communication. Last but not least, you will build lively, front-end prototypes that engineers will use to guide the design of a “final” product through cohesive UI’s that support the product and the Michael Kors brand.
Some other things you’ll do:
• Create the guiding principles for Digital Experience Design at Michael Kors
• Manage your team of designers to make customer- and associate-centered design decisions informed by data and user research
• Think strategically about rolling out designs in small steps to validate your assumptions
• Turn challenging workflows into simple, usable and elegant experiences
• Wear many hats, from high-level product thinking, to interaction flows and just-enough mockups—all the way to prototypes and front-end implementation
• Share work with fellow designers, giving and receiving feedback
• Collaborate with every team at Michael Kors: Product, IT, Marketing, Analytics, Support, Business, Operations, Creative and Innovation to name a few. Only together can we develop and ship holistic, brand-aligned experiences.
• Shape your team’s roadmap through clear communication and feedback
Requirements:
• Have 10+ years of cross-platform design experience, including managing teams of creatives
• Have confidently pitched intricate design briefings to Senior Leadership to influence brand approval
• Have experience running agile or scrum development cycles
• Want to build a strong team of experience designers to elevate the Michael Kors digital brand to new heights (i.e. hiring a team while working and establishing an entrepreneurial atmosphere and fail-fast mentality)
• Believe that product and design decisions are inextricably linked
• Have content strategy experience to find ways to reuse, leverage and optimize content across multiple touchpoints and with creative
• Are able to provide samples of work that show creative, user-centered UX solutions, strong visual design and solid information architecture
• Exhibit entrepreneurial, out-of-the-box thinker with intellectual curious and a strong work ethic.
• Demonstrate working knowledge of modern browsing and native front-end development technologies like HTML, SASS/CSS
• Delight in drawing up quick sketches, animated prototypes and experiments to validate ideas and opinions
• Value quality and polish with an eye for detail in both what you make and how you make it
• Give and receive honest, thoughtful feedback
• Are unafraid to change your opinion in the face of new information or understanding of the product goals—you have strong beliefs, but are open-minded
• Communicate design decisions openly and confidently, regardless of the audience—engineers, PMs, executives, other designers, etc.
• Are excited to work outside your comfort zone
• Want to seek out and develop a design process that encourages collaboration between other designers and product teams
• Advocate for the importance of research-informed design, and has partnered with research teams—or better yet, led research experiments—to validate and inform product thinking
• Are excited about learning and growing to take your professional skills to the next level
Preferred:
• Have experience designing for global marketing campaigns that consider targeted experiences depending on previous user interactions and their locale
• Have experience working on projects that span both print and screen, and is comfortable talking about the unique opportunities and limitations of both
• Have experience building loyalty platforms and focus cross channel and marketing
• Have experience creating or maintaining content management systems, and can talk about weighing product decisions for both the user creating the content and the end user consuming the content
• Have experience creating omnichannel/digital retail journeys for both the associate and consumer
• Have working knowledge of iOS Native Technologies (Objective-C / Swift)
