SUMMARY
As part of The North Face DTC team, the Sr. Director, Retail Merchandising will work collaboratively to provide direction and vision for the brand business, driving merchandising and assortment strategy to deliver brand and financial goals in all 3 DTC channels. Provides leadership, driving product assortment, merchandising and working cross functionally with Planning & Allocation, Visual and Marketing to achieve planned results.
RESPONSIBILITIES
• Develops merchandising plans that drive DTC sales by conceptualizing and executing long and short-term strategy for maximization of all direct to consumer sales. Responsible for achieving key gross margin expectations which meet or exceed financial objectives for DTC.
• Presents seasonal strategies by classification and supports the execution of merchandising plans based on classification analysis, key item opportunities and general direction.
• Provides insight to the planning, buying and distribution teams for store assortments and flow of merchandise which are consistent with the brand’s identity.
• Leads the merchandising of product lines and final assortment selections.
• Leads buying functions and works to buy quantities by style to maximize sales by creating seasonal price matrix by classification and identifies missed opportunities.
• Continually evaluates current store floor layout to improve overall consumer shopping experience while increasing the efficiency of store operations. Monitors retail’s discontinued inventory to manage items to sell at outlet stores.
• Develops and manages promotional strategy to maximize profit potential and collaborates with Marketing to organize advertising for seasonal sales and promotions.
• Attends and participates in Product Line Meetings.
• Interfaces with Visual Merchandising and Marketing departments to implement specific product presentations. Works with Visual Merchandising to ensure in store presentation accurately represents the line, addressing financial/inventory concerns.
• Regularly shops the company’s stores and the competition to validate and develop pricing and positioning. Conducts regular store visits to monitor and ensure operational, service and visual standard are consistently adhered.
• Develops customer retention and incentive programs and works with internal corporate plans to ensure retail into and lead company vision and product message.
• Develops public relations and marketing strategies to support sales plans.
• Manages seasonal and sample sales.
SKILLS & REQUIREMENTS
• 10+ years of related professional experience.
• BA or BS degree in Business, Retail Merchandising, or related field or equivalent years of experience.
• 5 years of management experience.
• Strong analytical and numerical skills and track record in meeting financial goals as well as marketing a brand successfully through a retail channel.
• Strong training skills.
• Balance between merchandising, inventory management, financial planning/analysis skills.
• Demonstrated ability to develop and drive strategy independently within an organization focused upon wholesale business concerns.
• The ability to work under pressure in a dynamic environment and to quickly identify problems and recommend solutions.
• Sound decision-making skills and the ability to plan and prioritize.
• Excellent communication and negotiation skills.
• The capability to work well as part of a team and to build and maintain effective working relationships with a range of people.
• Strong commercial acumen and the ability to understand what will appeal to customers.
• Computer literacy.
• Creative flair.
