Merchant – E-commerce
OVERVIEW:
The Assistant Merchant is a critical member of the merchandising team providing timely and efficient financial analysis, operational and technical support that contributes positively to the overall performance of the business and the team.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Conduct in-depth financial research and analysis to assist in decision making regarding assortment, pricing, strategy, and forecasting.
• Prepare and update reports for the Merchants as on a daily, weekly, monthly, annual, and ad hoc basis to support the business in looking at historical and current data.
• Maintain merchandising office organization including sample administration, quality, and status.
• Ownership of a given category or classification.
• Monitor and affect inventory levels on a daily/weekly basis and make recommendations for future sales.
• Partner with Design, Sourcing, Merchandising, and PR partners to track samples.
• Purchase order entry, purchase order management & Item Definitions for sku intensive business.
• Ticket order tracking & re-ordering.
• Manage process of HTS classification through LCS and maintain departmental files.
• Responsible for sample organization which includes receiving, separating and maintaining with extreme attention to detail.
• Daily communication with vendors, including tracking all submits, sample approvals and purchase order management communication. Acts as a liaison between the merchants and vendors.
• Assist in negotiating cost, terms, shipping, and returns with vendors. Ultimately ensure pricing recommendations are within margin objectives.
• Creates, provides and maintains seasonal style portfolio.
• Daily maintenance of pre-production and TOP samples; Communication of comments/approvals to vendors.
• Oversee proofing process of product to the site including price, layout, copy, and compliance.
• Stay current on market trends in the fashion/retail industry with particular attention of NY&Company competitors and the E-Commerce space.
• Provide ad hoc support to Merchants and E-Commerce team to collaboratively achieve business goals.
Required Experience:
QUALIFICATIONS:
• 1 year experience in an Assistant Merchant role.
• Fashion retail or related experience.
• Possesses up-to-date knowledge of industry trends.
• Strong organizational and prioritizing abilities.
• Acute attention to detail with strong follow-up skills.
• Expert skill in Microsoft Office Suite with particular attention to Excel.
• Excellent verbal and solid written communication skills.
• Flexible and multifunctional.
• Assertive, energetic and results driven.
• Ecommerce experience preferred.
EDUCATION:
• Bachelor’s Degree.
