Develops seasonal materials for footwear as well as materials that extend Timberland’s leadership position. Ensures materials are used efficiently across teams with reduced complexity and reduced cost. Educates Timberland footwear teams on materials availability, functions, use, and benefits.
Job Requirements:
• Bachelor’s degree in Materials Science or Engineering

• Communication Skills: Share information in ways that promote, clarify and keep people informed. Communicate materials and processes throughout the development cycle.

• Analytical Skills: Think through detailed information, situations or problems to identify core issues, patterns and their implications. Apply analytical skills to projects via evaluation of critical material.
• Influence Others: Engage with Timberland developers and designers to understand requirements and inform them of trends, inventions, research, and relationships in the areas of materials, processes, and environmentally important trends & developments. Work with external chemical and material companies that will enable us to leverage the Timberland brand using their technologies and advancements.
• Conduct Seasonal Materials Development: Ensure the efficient use of seasonal materials with the goals of strong performance, lower environmental footprint, reduced complexity, reduced cost, and improve education to product teams.
• Excellent PC skills, including Microsoft office products.
Responsibilities:
• Work with the Materials Development team to develop materials that support Timberland seasonal projects and provide solutions to overall material strategies. Work with key material vendors with a focus on compounds, textiles, hardware, and non-wovens.
• Coordinate and organize material data for PLM Materials to ensure accurate, up-to-date information.
• Support the development of new materials, and the optimization of manufacturing processes, that will help Product teams reach and exceed their performance, environmental, and cost targets.
• Provide technical support to Product teams on seasonal material initiatives that meet trend objectives, improve performance, reduce cost, and/or meet environmental goals.
• Interface with testing facilities to ensure materials pass TBL material standards. Work with design / development teams to ensure material is used appropriately in final product.
• Attend Material meetings/presentations to develop and expand understanding of materials and their properties.
