PRINCIPLE OBJECTIVE:
The Merchandising Design Director will initiate creative and innovative design solutions, maintain and control the style and standards of Visual Merchandising programs; aggressively pursue the development and execution of new concepts. Strive to bring new ideas to reality while being cost effective and at the forefront of design and technology. Champion and ensure global consistency.
ACCOUNTABILITIES:
• Create compelling line testers and launch testers based on briefs from Marketing. Oversee updates.
• Create global guidelines for all product launches with a focus on 4 and 5 star programs. Provide direction and guidance to the regions to ensure global consistencies are met allowing for regional customization.
• Partner with Global Store design on custom fixtures and tester bars for Estee Lauder Freestanding Stores and top doors. Direct the local markets on these initiatives to ensure design is implemented.
• Responsible for design and coordination of updates for open sell programs.
• Review, critique layouts and provide three-dimensional models to ensure that the EL image and marketing objectives exceed expectations. Ensure quality of final production with GMD and IP. (Global Merchandising Design and Indirect Procurement)
• Oversee room conference room designs for all phases of major presentations and conferences.
• Maintain awareness of trends, styles, materials and technology relative to the competition. Provide learnings to Global Merchandising Team, Global Store Design Team and Estee Lauder Senior Management.
• Actively participate at meetings and be able to strategically assign responsibilities to expedite programs.
QUALIFICATIONS:
• Bachelor of Industrial Design, Exhibit Design or Interior Design degree plus 8+ years design experience.
• Must have awareness of Social/Digital platforms and ability to design merchandising concepts that activate social/digital experience in-store and can also be cascaded across social media platforms.
• Prior experience as a designer in a fast-paced, high pressure creative environment. Cosmetic industry experience a plus.
• Position requires outstanding leadership and project management skills.
• Position requires strong presentation skills, ability to personally organize, prioritize and manage Junior members and free-lancers.
• Ability to manage a successful initiation and execution of numerous projects simultaneously.
• Must be a self-starter, flexible and imaginative with an elevated sense of three-dimensional design.
• Proficiency utilizing Vectorworks and/or AutoCAD plus current 3D rendering programs to model fixtures and store environments.
